Idle curiosity, but who here has taken it upon themselves to learn any new skills since they've showed up here?
I've been teaching myself to cook, but I really consider that more of a practical thing and less something that I picked up for the sake of learning, you know?
The thought crossed my mind to learn another language, but we all kind of did that already, didn't we? I suppose I could teach someone instead, but if you want to take me up on the offer, there's sadly not enough orcs here for you to practice with.

I already knew how to wield some of the elements, but I've been trying to find ways to incorporate Nippon's elements into the ones I already know. It's been pretty interesting seeing how different they are, even when the elements themselves are the same.

Yes?
[ WHY DO YOU ASK ]

I'll admit that I haven't looked too much into this world's magic, but perhaps I should.

I used Hi magic up in Sapporo to keep myself warm, so I didn't have to wear bulky clothes while hiking out in the snow. But you can also use it to cool someone down if they have a fever, or even just instantly chill a drink without using ice cubes.

I've mostly been sticking with the magic I knew from my own world, but even that has its limits.

The magic here comes in so many different forms, it wasn't too hard to find a way to combine it with what I already know. But I guess that still depends on what the magic itself is like.

No, not really.

Well. Food for thought, I suppose. I've been trying to find more ways I could be helpful to the other refugees here.

[ Fuck your fantasy tropes, fantasy authors ]

The orcs in my world are very, very different to you. In all aspects. It is probably good for you to that we are from different worlds, in truth, or our meeting would not have been so cordial.

That said, most of my relatives are more likely to just shove you in a locker somewhere than immediately start anything actually dangerous, but still.
[ relations are not great, but not "kill on sight" bad, basically. ]

Nothing worse than my brothers have done. Relations in my world are... well. Death is likely a mercy, for those few who still recall what they were. Perhaps, even for those who do not.

I'd say anything that can benefit new arrivals might be a good place to start? I know I've been making a habit of talking to any I meet about what life is like here, so they aren't caught off-guard by anything. I don't know if it makes a huge difference, but I'd like to think it helps a little.

( isn't that a tick box scenario? you are, or you are not. )

Adding unnecessary words is a bit of a bad habit of mine.
[ Hopefully that clears that up. ]

why would you want to make your romantic situation ambiguous like that?
( unfortunately, Steak is a jerk. )

Alright.
I've had some very serious issues regarding my own sense of self-worth that have made it difficult for me to say anything definitively, and as a result I sound unsure of absolutely everything because for the longest time growing up, I'd been terrified of being wrong and causing offense.
[ He had a somewhat strict upbringing and very few real friends or really anyone to latch onto. ]
In recent years the underlying issues have been addressed at least somewhat, but old habits die hard.
god i'm so sorry about him he's just terrible at this
that wastes a lot of energy. there's no reason to be frightened of such things.
( easy for you to say, Steak. you just roll with the punches. )

It's a long story and honestly only mildly interesting. I was actually punched in the gut by Gruumsh in the brief period where I was dead and in the afterlife, but that's also how orcs greet each other, so don't read too much into it.
[ Also, Gruumsh wasn't too bad; he's more like the boomer uncle who shows up at family holiday gatherings and has some very unfortunate opinions than some greater evil. ]

In my world, orcs were elves, originally. Taken, enslaved, broken and corrupted. Tis why they hate us so.

so? you're not a child any more.
