Backdated to Mid-June - First half action open for Rufus, Reno, and Rude, second half network for anybody else who wants to reply!
[ Tseng's first night in Nippon did not go at all as he initially thought after leaving the orientation provided to him upon his arrival. He spent the first few hours walking around Tokyo, trying to get the layout of the land, take in as much as he possibly could before retiring to his assigned housing for the night... He didn't expect to run into Rufus Shinra. And that chance encounter changed everything.
They spent the night together, getting reacquainted, relaxing, and Rufus telling him everything he has yet to experience in their own world. The things Rufus told him sounded positively ridiculous, but he knows Rufus wouldn't lie to him... It was overwhelming and will likely take Tseng a while to process.
He wakes mid-morning, pulling on the pajama pants he was given the night before and a t-shirt, and leaves Rufus asleep before heading downstairs to bring some coffee and breakfast back up to their room. He quietly descends the stairs and sees the Turks. ]
Reno. Rude.
[ He offers a small smile and a nod as he passes by, disappearing into the kitchen. ]
----
[ Once he's back upstairs and settled on the bed, he pulls out his magi-comm, studying the device before turning it on. It's certainly no smartphone, but it will suffice. ]
I'm looking for a few individuals and was told this is the best and quickest way possible to get their attention. [ He looks over at Rufus, who is off-screen, briefly ] If you know Zack Fair or Aerith Gainsborough, please tell them I'm looking for them and would love to talk.

[Action]
It's at this point that it catches up with Reno that Tseng is here and Tseng can't help the smile on his face at the realization and following question. ]
The pajamas were loaned to me.
[ Looking in the small refrigerator now, Tseng finds some eggs and a loaf of bread before returning to the stove to cook breakfast for himself and Rufus. He looks over his shoulder at Reno from where he stands at the stove. ]
Did you think I slept in a suit?
[Action]
[He watched Tseng go about his business and it seemed like he was already settling in well enough. Leave it to the boss to get caught up quickly. He wondered who he'd talked to thus far and how long it had taken him to get to their new headquarters.
But however it happened, he was here now, and Reno felt a sense of relief. That just left Elena, their not so new newbie. They were almost whole. Well, besides the other Turks, but they'd been doing their own stuff for a while, much as Reno would like everyone to be back together like the old days.]
You know how to use that thing?
no subject
[ Tseng is still dealing with everything Rufus shared with him the night before regarding their futures. It was... a lot, to say the least. So, the lighthearted conversation with Reno is welcomed even though he knows they have more serious things to discuss at some point, things Rufus said would be better coming from Reno or Rude than from himself.
He cracks the eggs into the frying pan before turning back around to look at Reno, small smile still on his face. ]
A day suit and a night suit? [ A pause ] I only came here with the suit I was wearing, so I'll have to invest in a new night suit.

[Never mind that they didn't adequately furnish said mansions. But they had the buildings. That was good, right?]
We should all get big wardrobes! Why the fuck not? We can do anything we want here. Hardly gotta worry about shit.
[And he was taking it... fairly well. He'd always been the most laidback in style, and did the best adjusting to interacting with regular people after the fall of Midgar. With their problems gone he saw no reason not to take full advantage of their new freedom.
But, there was one thing. He narrowed his eyes at Tseng, examining him closely. He knew this wasn't Tseng when he was really young for sure, but he didn't seem as aged as he remembered him. They'd been through a lot, and all of their faces had gotten a little worn over time.]
Say, boss...? What's the last thing you remember?
no subject
[ Fully turning from the breakfast he's attempting to make, he gives Reno his full attention. This is a conversation he was expecting, especially after speaking with Rufus and learning about all of the things he has yet to experience on their own planet. He's aware that both Reno and Rude are from roughly the same point in time as Rufus, give or take a few months. They've both experienced Tseng escaping death more than once, both experienced the fall from power, the destruction of Midgar, everything Tseng now knows about.
He's not going to go into detail regarding his conversation with Rufus. That's something that will stay between them. But he will answer any and all questions Reno may have and ask some of his own. ]
The last thing I recall was Rufus taking his seat as President. [ A pause ] I was standing behind the desk with him as Reeve, Scarlet, Palmer and Heidegger took their places in front of the desk before I started experiencing the time loop.
[ He briefly turns back around to flip the eggs over, not wanting to burn them, before continuing. ]
As I understand it, I've missed out on quite a lot.
no subject
[So much had happened. That was like a lifetime ago.]
Yeah, you missed out on all the fun. Lots of explosions.
[The humor doesn't quite reach his tone, though. They'd been on the edge of surviving for a long time and had more than their fair share of near death experiences.
It's also a bit weird to be ahead of his boss. Not just information-wise, but their ages weren't going to line up right. It was all going to be strange and they'd just have to deal with it.]
...Guess I should let you know that I'm owed a few years' salary.
no subject
[ Tseng turns his attention back to stove, taking the eggs off of the burner and putting them on to a plate before dropping two pieces of toast into the pan since there looks to be no toaster. Cooking without modern appliances will be... an experience.
Life here is going to be an adjustment. In the less than 24 hours since he's been here, it already has been. He's used to being in work mode 24/7, but here? Here, he doesn't have to be a Turk... and Tseng isn't quite sure what that's going to look like for him. He's thankful the Turks and Rufus are here to navigate through this new life, though. It will make things a little bit easier. ]
As for missing out, Rufus has filled me in as best he could on the events he experienced during the last two years. Lots of explosions seems to be putting it lightly.
no subject
[But he was happy. Surprised but happy. It's good to talk to his boss again.]
...I guess that saves me the trouble of explaining. [Though he felt a little bad that Rufus had to explain some of those things.] We're nowhere near home anyway. But, Rufus is a bit ahead of where I came from, and it sounds like we make it in the end. [That is, with Rufus cured, they were good. Whatever came after that, they would deal with it as necessary.]
If you wanna make any practice eggs or anything, I'd be willing to taste test.
no subject
[ Normally, Tseng wouldn't cook breakfast for Reno, however he figures it's a good idea to let him make sure they're edible before he takes a plate to Rufus. Taking the toast out of the pan, he puts them on the plate and goes to sit at the table with Reno and Rude, sliding the plate across to Reno once he's there.
It's nice to be able to sit here like this with them, to not have to be in work mode, always at the ready, or worried about what AVALANCHE is doing. ]
I know there are things you can fill in that Rufus wasn't able to, but I'm not going to press you for information this morning.
[ Tseng knows he should talk to his Turks about things from their own world, to get a better picture of where everybody is from in time and what everybody has or hasn't experienced, especially since they've all experienced more than he has... But the conversation with Rufus was exhausting and he has had little time to process it.
So, he decides to switch gears. ]
Rufus tells me you're quite the entrepreneur in Nippon, even doing some paperwork of your own. [ He raises an eyebrow ] How about you tell me about your business, instead?
no subject
[Honestly, some of it was hard to relive and right now he'd rather be elated that a plate of eggs and toast were set in front of him and he didn't even have to cook it.
He immediately slapped the eggs in between the two pieces of toast and made himself a sandwich, taking a big bite out of it. It wasn't particularly 'spiced up' with anything. Kind of bland, and maybe ever so slightly over-cooked, but Reno had definitely had far worse in his rough life. He actually had a pretty strong stomach.
He almost finished chewing before he started talking again. Almost.]
Oh, yeah! They got websites here but they're totally new, and 'cause we know how that goes back home, I thought we should get in on the website market before anyone else! So I started a porn site!
[And he's so damn proud. How could Tseng look at those glistening eyes and get mad?]
no subject
But he can't be mad, not with the look of pride on Reno's face. ]
A porn site?
[ He leans back in his chair, folding his arms across his chest. He knew, after talking with Rufus the night before, that their skills weren't needed in Nippon, that there was no place for the Turks as Midgar knew them here. So, he's proud of Reno for taking initiative and starting a business. ]
How is that going? [ He pauses ] But, first, how is the food? I see it's edible, at the very least.
no subject
[He gave the food a thumbs up as he shoved the last bite in. Truthfully, it was probably mediocre at best, but if there was one strength Reno had it was his stomach. One couldn't expect someone from the streets of Midgar to have royal taste buds - he'd eaten a lot of questionable things in his life. It was probably one of his good assets after Midgar fell, since food was scarce and they had to eat whatever they could get.
But it might not live up to Rufus's standards.]
It just launched a couple weeks ago, so we're still working on advertising and teaching people how to even use a website. But I found a guy who showed up with a modern camera, so the photography work is a million times better than anything else they have in this city. No one else could even compete with what we've got!
no subject
This business of Reno's takes Tseng's focus away from going back to the stove to cook breakfast for Rufus, equal parts impressed and surprised at it all.
It's nice to talk about something that isn't heavy, that's about this new life they've been given and not of what they left behind in their own world. Of course, that conversation will come - Rufus said that both Reno and Rude have things to fill him in on that he's yet to experience - but they'll have time for that later. ]
I'm assuming you've done your work with recruiting models, then? And you're making sure you keep a record of all of your expenditures, paying your employees, that sort of thing?
no subject
[There's an awkward pause after that firm declaration.
Maybe he wasn't the best at paperwork, but Rufus had been helping him out, and it was more of a disinterest in it than an inability to understand it.
He was more concerned with the fact that one of his models was Aerith, and he wasn't sure he wanted Tseng to find that out. Sure, it'd been totally willing. She seemed to have fun, even. But he knew Tseng had a weird kind of relationship with her, just like they all had a weird connection to her. It was a little odd having her all grown up and in lingerie.
The fact that Sephiroth and Zack were on there was nothing compared to that.]
I got a fair amount of awesome models already, but you're probably not interested in that part.
[Don't be interested.]
no subject
He'll certainly help out where necessary, behind the scenes with the money or the paperwork involved. As soon as he gets settled and figures out what he'll be doing with his time, that is. ]
Don't be silly, Reno.
[ The corner of his mouth curves upward in what may be a slight smile. ]
Of course, I'm interested.
no subject
[It was great to have Tseng's support when it didn't involve him potentially finding out something that could get Reno killed. Currently Reno's mind was screeching at 100mph figuring a way to weasel out of this problem.]
You don't gotta pretend or anything. Even if you helped with paperwork or something that'd be more than enough! Don't worry about the lewd stuff. That's my specialty!
no subject
[ Tseng has known Reno long enough that he can tell when the Turk is lying to or dodging answering him. He gives him a look, cocking his head to the side as he unfolds his arms and leans forward a bit.
Let's try this again. ]
Why are you avoiding telling me about your models?
no subject
[But he's got to tell him something.]
It's just that...
[He pursed his lips seriously.]
Sephiroth's on there in a thong. You've been through enough already, haven't you, boss? You don't got to be subjected to that.
no subject
[ Tseng doesn't know what he expected, but it... wasn't that. Sure, the thought of seeing that SOLDIER turned basket case in a thong isn't exactly appealing, he doesn't know why Reno would think it's so bad that he dodged telling him.
He also makes a mental note to ask Rufus about Sephiroth's presence, wondering if he's still here, what point in time he's from that he'd let Reno take explicit photos of him... There's a lot to unpack. ]
I've certainly seen and been through worse. However, he can't be the only model you have on your website.
no subject
And... I might've done a little modeling myself. Well, I mean. I get if you wanna see me. [In Reno's mind, who doesn't want to check him out? Just look at him!] But don't even worry about it. You can leave that part to me.
no subject
[ It goes without saying that Tseng doesn't really have anything to do in Nippon. While he's not exactly job hunting at the moment, he knows he'll have to occupy his time somehow... And he doesn't think his role as Director of Administrative Research will carry much weight here or that they even need the Turks as they were in Midgar.
Getting up from the table, Tseng takes the empty plate from in front of Reno and, after dropping it in the sink, returns to the stove to cook something to take upstairs to Rufus. ]
What else do I need to know about Nippon? Rufus didn't give me much information on what life is like here.
no subject
...It's pretty peaceful, actually. I guess that means it can be a bit boring. But I don't hate it.
[He'll take 'boring' over Rufus being sick and dying. Especially after years of surviving through the apocalypse. He was due for some R&R, as Tseng would say. And by that time they were tired. They weren't done being Turks, but they were used up to their last thread, extending themselves practically across the world with hardly any people left.]
There's at least interesting stuff to check out. Dunno if it'll still be interesting if we're here for years, but it's enough to pass the time for now. Different cities and... species? They got some drug stuff going on here and some nice festivals and shit. Lots of sex stores... They're really into sex.
no subject
It's still a lot for him to take in, and it will be quite a while before he's able to fully process everything Rufus told him last night as they sat on his bed. ]
From what I've been told, the three of you are in need of this, even if it is a bit on the boring side. [ A pause ] Adjusting to this life will be a challenge, but a welcome one.
[ He turns back to the stove, cracking a couple of eggs into the frying pan. As he cooks, he continues talking without turning back to look at Reno. ]
I am, at the very least, aware of the natives' interest in sex. I was told about a festival you recently attended.
no subject
[Pre-emptive self-defense. He knew Tseng was protective of Rufus.
They all were - Reno just had his own way of doing that. And maybe it involved dick waffles.]
I figure, as far as we're concerned, we did our part at home. Yeah, there's lots of rebuilding and shit, but we already got that started well enough. We don't need to be there. Our home is gone...
[Still hurt a bit to see headquarters blow up, but that was hardly the most painful memory.]
We got everything that's important right here anyway. Except for Elena. And maybe she'll show up in time. But if she does, we got to make sure she's not too trigger happy.
no subject
Rufus mentioned her more than once in their conversation the night before, but there had been so much information he shared that Tseng didn't feel like it was a good time to ask about Elena being a Turk. He knew the girl - blonde, pigtails, Gun's younger sister, worked as a bartender in Wall Market - but that was the extent of his knowledge. ]
Elena finally followed in her sister's footsteps and became a Turk, I see. [ A pause ] From what I understand, she and I experience quite a number of difficulties.
