[ A solid thirty seconds of one (1) Kaito Nagano grumbling while adjusting the video angle ensue before he actually says anything. He appears to be in a grassy clearing in Nara's Deer Park. A squad of several dozen arukibake bounce around in frame. ]

...Oh, shit. This thing's already recording.

[ Kaito shuffles a few feet back and sits on the grass so that he's in frame. The cloth ghosties proceed to perch on his shoulders and head. ]

Uh, hey. I'm Kaito. I'm looking for someone to practice the local spellcraft with. Or talk magic theory with. I've got a good handle on wind, but water's been a struggle because of muscle memory. Back home I'm pretty decent with water magic, so my old training's getting in the way of my new training.

I figured another refugee would have better insight on how to work around this than a local, y'know?

[ While Kaito's been talking, more and more of the little ayakashi have been piling up and using their little feetsies to tug at his clothes as if wanting attention. He's started petting a few. ]

I spend most of my time bouncing between Nara, Osaka, and Kyoto. Hit me up if you're interested, I guess.

[ Aaaaaand another thirty seconds pass with him all but drowning in arukibake until the camera's POV falls forward and turns dark. The feed ends there. ]

[ He's had a few of these fellas bounce around his feet during his first visit to Nara. He even had one hitching a ride on his shoulder for a while. One by one, they eventually wandered away, searching for someone else to be drawn to. Even Edelgard had...what, ten? He'd been paying attention to the man's request. ...as best he could whilst the squad was rolling up. And over. And making him lose count as he squints.

Hey! You— [ good bro? ] —okay?

[ The feed actually starts with him talking this time. There's still a Metric Fuckton™ of arukibake using him as a playground structure, but he seems well enough. ]

I'm—[ good, bro. ]—fine, thanks. These little guys don't know when to quit.

Never without company, huh?

[ Despite the implications of all these little critters, the blond's expression does lighten some, as does his tone. ]

Haven't really dived into the local magic, but... I got plenty of my own to work with.

[ Well, it's something. A few somethings, but the most important something is that Kaito is reaching out to others and might very well leave the library willingly to engage with people. Sure, it would be for the purpose of practical study, but people eat, drink, take breaks, and rest. Maybe the work-a-holic will get caught up in such activities in between sessions with study buddies.

Maybe he'll make some more friends. She knows he likes the Arukibake, but those leggy little ghosts are drawn to lonely people. To be followed by such a number -- overwhelmed, even --

Setsura shakes her head and chuckles. ]

Still giving you trouble, hm?

Ironic how that works, right? Surrounded by little friends, and yet.

[ He doesn't complete the thought, instead opting to hold his hands out. Several of the arukibake pile onto his palms before they're launched a few feet in the air by a gust. ]

It's really interesting. Four principal elements, and yet their applications expand so far out beyond what you'd expect of them. Wind magic can be developed into a teleportation spell, and that sounds neat enough—but what about memory alteration? Or how water magic can manipulate electrical currents...

[ He pauses as a few spirits land on his head. ]

I just think it's neat. What kind of magic exists in your home world, stranger?

They're hardly troublesome. Just a little willful, is all.

[ Kaito picks three of the tiny ayakashi up and begins to juggle them. They look delighted. ]

I know the implications of them herding en masse, but I'd rather enjoy the company than think about why the company is there to begin with.

[ It tells her a little something, that he picked that point to address over the matter of his magic. She pausing, watching the delighted little ayakashi. ]

As long as they aren't trying to lick you, I suppose.

I'm surprised you can get any studying done with so many of them tailing you, though. Do they let the lot of you into the university? I'd imagine you're stopped often, too.

[ The locals have always been especially quick to check on anyone the Arukibake follow. To hug them, ask them if they need help or to talk, offer them a shoulder, give them things -- ]

[ Yet isolated all the same... Nor does Cloud voice the end of that thought. It doesn't seem all so bad, on the surface anyway. ]

Feels like skies the limit if you're that in-tune.

[ From where Cloud is sitting, the magicomm rests atop the table in the center of a living room, the blond once seated seiza style before he decides to get more relaxed. It's not like anyone else was around, leaning back on a hand as he moves onto his butt. ]

I'm Cloud. [ So this is the cool water man! ] A bunch. I'll go with the short answer first.

[ Because JRPG L O R E can be fun. ]

Elemental magic like lightning, fire, ice... Magic harnessed from the knowledge of the Planet, time magic, magic that supports other magic...

[ A soft 'hmph' and sigh through his nose as he realizes how all over the place it sounds. So how's it all compounded? ]

Best to sum it up with all that getting used through Materia.

[ It could be worse. He hasn't been hit with any Kizuna effects yet.

Emphasis on yet. Kaito snaps his fingers. His eyes seem to flash on screen for a second. Streams of water spawn from mid-air to craft a few replicas of the water slides from Itabashi that the arukibake immediately begin to play around on. ]

Well met, Cloud. If not for those 'Materia', your world's magic sounds a lot like mine. There are a bunch of different pantheons with gods and goddesses and other supernatural figures, and all of them have their own diverse magic systems. Are these Materia like catalysts that you use magic through?

[ Kaito gives one of the larger ayakashi a squeeze like it's a plush. ]

They're surprisingly good at listening to instructions. And no, the university won't let me bring all of them in. I usually just take one or two. They've started to place lots on who gets to follow me into the library. I'm not sure how to handle that piece of information.

[ She pauses. ]

I knew that ayakashi were more intelligent than regular animals, but this is the first I've heard of them placing lots. Have they done anything else odd?

[ It's difficult to tell from the video quality how Cloud's own eyes hold a subtle glow from the mako, but Kaito's eyes flashing as he manifests intricate and familiar waterslides from Itabashi raises the swordsman's brows further. 'Cute' wasn't really a common word in his vocabulary, but seeing the little spirits being entertained on them... ]

Bingo. And every one has different properties. For example, most green colored Materia houses magic like the elements, or gravity, healing...and blue colored ones don't do much on their own till they're paired with another color.

Mmm, not that I've seen. Who knows what they get up to when I'm away?

Maybe I can teach them how to cook.

How do you think that would work?

[ They're so leggy. ]

I taught the ghosts possessing my kitchenware back home to cook for me.

I can teach these little guys and gals.

I suppose they should do something more to earn their keep.

[ Besides keeping him company, that is. He's smart. She's sure he'll understand. ]
