Have you ever been in love? What's it like? I just...

I wonder. It's not something I was ever taught.

It is both the most wonderful and yet painful thing one can experience. It is something that cannot be taught.

It can't be taught at all? How do you know what to do about it?

It's like finding the one Song that matches yours. Why do you ask, Jin Mi? Has someone caught your heart?

If... If I'm technically dating someone and they make me happy, is that part of love?

I was never taught. There are many different ways to love someone and how you do it is the way that is most natural to you will just come to you. No way is the perfect way.

How do you know that you were on love, my friend?

It sounds complicated.

That's it, I don't. I feel things and I'm happy, but I have nothing to compare it to.

Dating? Is that like courting?

But happiness, yes. To be with the one you love, it brightens the day, and gentles the night, it eases sorrow and lifts joy.

It is but yet, it really isnt.

Is your happiness from the one you love? Is it the same that you feel when you are making flowers bloom?

Love is both one of the most wondrous and frightening things a person can experience. It can take you to the heights of happiness and the depths of despair. The joy it brings will stay with you forever.

For me, it's like springtime! Like everything in the world just bursts to life with color and birdsong. It's the best feeling.

How can it be both?

Yes. I like living with him. I like seeing him everyday.

It's less complicated than that.

My garden is much bigger. I made phoenix flowers for him.

My garden has grown. Birds visit and make nests. I made phoenix flowers for him. I can't ever remember feeling this way. I like living with him. He spends time with me and I've never seen him smile so much.

That sounds like happiness to me. There's a lot of that in love.

They usually bloom only once - a fiery red - and then they fade. But I've used my magic to make sure they bloom every season.

But you said something about despair too?

They do sound very lovely. Have you grown other flowers too?

It's hard to describe how love feels because it's different for everyone. For me it's a warmth in my heart knowing that that the man I'm engaged to sees me. He wants to be with me and spend time with me. And I with him.

But it's something of a longing to be near that person whenever you can. To be a part of their lives.

A lot of the ones I remember in the Water Mirror are in the garden.

There's always some sadness to go with the joy. Disagreements, time apart, the end of a love.

That sounds very lovely - one day, perhaps I will visit and you can show me. We don't have phoenix flowers in my world, I think, at least, not by that name.

It seems kind of exhausting to me. Not bad, but...intimidating.

You're welcome anytime! I know you will like them. There might be other flowers that are new to you too.

Well, yes. But not just that. I've seen people twisted by it into unrecognizable beasts, and those who allow it to consume their thoughts and heart for centuries.
