[Fairly late in the evening, a message comes up on the network--]
Does anyone have any advice for help with sleep troubles?
I just arrived at the beginning of the month, and I don't think I've had a restful night since then.
I suppose it doesn't help that I haven't decided whether to try and remain nocturnal or not, but I'd settle for anything if it meant getting some sleep.
[And then, much later in the evening--]
How do other vampires handle living in a climate like this?
Even with this air conditioner on, it's too hot.

Lets seeeeeeee
Usually a good workout and a full belly afterwards knocks me right out
But one time I caught granny putting honey and chamomile in a cup of hot milk once when she had some trouble maybe try doing that????
no subject
Unfortunately, I'd probably just get sick if I tried something like that.
I'm a vampire, so the list of things I can drink aside from blood is pretty limited.
[Which, for different reasons, means eating until he feels "full" is pretty much impossible right now. Not when he's still trying to avoid drinking blood.]
no subject
oh
I don't know what to tell u buddy I'm not a vampire
Well u said yor list of things u can eat is limited but not nothing right???? Try filling yor belly with what u CAN eat!
[Genbu...food isn't the solution to all problems...]
no subject
But I still don't think that would be a very viable solution for me, since they don't exactly sell what I can eat in stores.
[Well not the legal ones, at least!!]
no subject
R u lonely perhaps??? Maybe u need a sleeping buddy?? Did u sleep alone back home

Speaking from experience, a good fight's usually enough to tire people out - or get your blood pumping, so it's really kind of hit or miss.
no subject
I don't know about a fight, but I could afford to exercise a bit more.
But it's been a bit difficult trying to figure out where I can do so without overheating. The climate here is a lot hotter than what I'm used to back home, and I don't handle the heat very well.
no subject
If there's a pool nearby, you could always try swimming! I haven't been out much myself, so I can't offer any more pointers than that, sorry.
no subject
I know I've seen flyers for a gym that has an indoor pool, so I wouldn't have to worry about a sunburn.
[There is no SPF strong enough for him without resorting to magic, probably.]
Are you a new arrival here, too?
no subject
[ It's not so surprising, really, but it's not something he's run into a lot either. That probably rules out swimming, unless. ]
If you want, I could teach you. I've got a bit of a uh. Affinity for water, I guess you could say. It'd be worth it to find out where the water pools are.
[ A beat, and then: ]

Also, I feel like the ACs run pretty warm, too. Good thing I'm my own AC unit.
[There's a small layer of frost on everything in her room IT'S FINE.]
no subject
I'm a vampire, so my diet is pretty limited.
[It all sounds so nice, though?? He's never even heard of it.]
But it's good to hear it's not just me. Maybe these units need servicing of some kind?
But what do you man you're your own AC unit?
no subject
I'm a yuki-onna, so I can get myself pretty cold. I don't think it's the units' fault. Maybe you're from somewhere where it's just colder? Like a polar bear, you know? They like it super cold, and do poorly where it's warmer than where it's used to living.
no subject
[Bless u Nippon giving him the gift of Japanese so he can understand that without asking.]
That's entirely possible.
My world is in the middle of a little ice age.
Vampires can't feel cold, but we can't handle warmer temperatures at all. I didn't even know it could get as hot as it has been outside.
no subject
If you're in the middle of a little ice age, then it's no surprise that you're feeling gross. I was planning on maybe making it snow somewhere, so you're welcome to come visit when that happens.

If I'm not able to find a friend to share my space with I just resort to a few glasses of wine while reading a good book. Do you have any relaxing hobbies, by chance?
no subject
I do enjoy reading, but when I tried that earlier, the books were too interesting to put me to sleep.
I've never learned any of the dead languages before, so suddenly being able to read in a completely different one is too novel to be boring, no matter the subject.
[Dead languages because there's only really one left still in use in his world.]
no subject
I've been there before myself. That's why it's only an alternative plan of action.
I'm sorry, did I misread what you said? What do you mean by dead languages?
[ EXCUSE HIM FOR THE SUDDEN EXISTENTIAL CRISIS THAT IS MORE CRISIS THAN STANDARD ENNUI. ]
Japanese is hardly dead. What do you speak back home?
no subject
There weren't many people left after the first world ended, since the climate was so thoroughly changed.
And there aren't too many old records left, either.
So we only know of a handful of dead languages that humans used to use.
[It takes him a minute to switch the keyboard, but eventually he manages to type out, in what's likely English:]
But ours is written like this.
no subject
Records usually do have a funny way of making themselves scarce in a bad situation...
Wow, your place sounds horrifying, especially to someone like me. You're explaining it as if you aren't human? Should I ask or just leave it to be a horrible mystery?
[ Leave it to him to not get the other message first before engaging in conversation. Shell with the fangies. ]
YOU CAN CHANGE THE KEYBOARD? What is this?!
...of course English survived. Ugh.

I suppose I got used to Tokyo's summer weather, so it's not so bad in comparison. All else fails, I shapeshift so I'm smaller. It's easier to get cool then. Have you tried cool baths?
It's the winter weather that's terrible, so you're lucky you missed that. The heating went out in the dorms and it was miserable.
no subject
For real?
[SORRY HE'S STUCK ON THAT WHAT]
no subject
Even if you can't, still say cold baths should help.
no subject
I've been taking ice baths after I go out every time, and they do help a little.
You mentioned the winters here are cold, but vampires like me can't feel cold temperatures. We just can't handle heat. So everywhere here has been too hot.
no subject
Hm.]
Guess we're different sorts of vampires, then. I've never heard of a vampire who couldn't feel cold. If anything it's harder for us to handle.
Other suggestions I can make are to eat lots of ice cream, or take up swimming.
