December | Mysterious Emergency Broadcast

Mysterious Emergency Broadcast
On the morning of the 5th, the refugees will find their magi-comm is ringing. It will ring regardless of where they are, even if they're outside a city, with an emergency alert displayed on the screen. It seems this feature is the only one that can still work anywhere. It will ring until answered.
Opening it will start a video call, showing a young woman with unkempt black hair and a tired expression sipping at a steamy drink. She's sitting backwards on a chair in the middle of a room filled with electrical equipment, eyes staring back at the screen, as she slowly grins.
First things first, let's cut to the chase, yeah? I'm the one who started the timeloop.
Or like, I would have become the one to do it? Obviously that ain't happening anymore. Apparently 50 year old me had some regrets, and decided to try and build a time machine. Or at least, that's our best educated guess. But seeing as future-me broke the past, current-me has no interest in time machines.
Best not to overthink the time paradox. You'll melt your brains.
But with that out of that way, let me keep this short and sweet, yeah?
This isn't the first time you've been here. It's the second.
When the timeloop finally ended on December 25th, 1920, the people were ecstatic. But little do the masses know, that only lasted a year. On December 25th 1921, everyone will wake up and it'll be January 1st, 1921 all over again. And none of you will remember me. Just like you didn't remember me this time.
But don't worry. I wouldn't be telling you all this if there was nothing you could do, yeah? That'd just be cruel.
You all remember the time loop in August, right? When the fractured souls of the people who died in previous loops bound together to hold back time? You think I didn't know about it? Heh. Turns out, there's a reason they did that. Unaware that they were still alive, all they wanted was a second chance to survive.
And among you refugees, and those who were here in the previous loop -- there are those wishing for the same thing.
A second chance. A do-over. A desire to try again for a better result. This year's been pretty hard on some of you, hasn't it?
I'm not saying you're wishing for a timeloop specifically. But kizuna is far from stable magic, and you don't always get what you wish for. And the combined kizuna held by every refugee in Nippon was enough to jumpstart the timeloop all over again.
So you get what I'm saying, right?
Regrets. The things you wish you could fix, change, or even things you've been putting off. You'll all have to address those issues of yours if you want time to march forward. And unfortunately, we don't have very much of that left.
I'll be here to help, of course. It's the least I can do, since there was only so much help I could offer to get you through this year again. All I ask is you keep this between us. This world can't handle the knowledge of another time loop. And I don't want to lose any more colleagues.
And as the only person who was damned to remember every single loop and somehow didn't go mad like everyone else who did... you know, it'd be nice to finally celebrate a new birthday.
So. Questions, you've got them. Answers, I'll give them.
Who knows? Maybe if time progresses... we can try becoming friends again next year?
As the video feed ends, a series of questions pop up on the screen.

scienz_rulz_1899: what are your regrets of the past year?
scienz_rulz_1899: if you could change anything about your current life, what would it be?
scienz_rulz_1899: how can you help the people around you accept the way things are?
scienz_rulz_1899: how can you change the way things are to make the people around you happier?
scienz_rulz_1899: think about all the bonds you've created in your time here
scienz_rulz_1899: and all the bonds you've lost
scienz_rulz_1899: discuss it amongst yourselves
scienz_rulz_1899: but whatever you do, don't cast blame
scienz_rulz_1899: it took one hell of a bond to bring us out of the first time loop
scienz_rulz_1899: so be good and make friends
scienz_rulz_1899: or this won't be easy
scienz_rulz_1899: i'll be here whenever you need me
scienz_rulz_1899: so don't be scared okay? :)
scienz_rulz_1899: and we'll get through this together
OOC Notes
Welcome to the first part of December's event! This post is a discussion mingle, so feel free to tag around! Please direct any OOC questions to the question thread below!
• Surprise! You've all been in a time loop this whole time! Please note that scienz_ruls_1899 is the only character who knew about the loop, with the NRL being kept in the dark.
• To avoid any OOC anxieties about how this will play out, for your information: time will not loop again, but the characters themselves do not know that. The event log later this month will explain in more detail how things will play out.
• This post is for characters to ICly discuss this knowledge with each other, how to face their own regrets and desires, as well as question the NPC for whatever information they want.
• Interacting with the this post or the NPC is not necessary to participate in December's event!
• While characters are welcome to ask the NPC about what happened in the previous time loop, her answers will be vague, or obvious joke answers. However, if you'd like to say something specific happened, feel free to bring it up with me OOCly and she can tell them about it!
• If you would like to opt of this plot entirely, your character is welcome to not have their magi-comm in their possession when it rings. However, please keep in mind that time loops are an essential part of Jikan's basic premise, so avoiding them forever is not realistic in the long term!

OOC Questions

Likewise, you can use things that happened in the previous loop to justify things that happened in this one (e.g. two characters who became best friends very quickly may have had a slower burn or a tragic end in the previous loop).
Korollan/"Koro" | Original
Starting a life over again, missing memories...no wonder I'm not as take aback by this news...this is something I've done all my life.
[Koro murmurs to himself, unaware of anyone that could be within earshot.]
It's all Lucy this time | Elfen Lied (manga ver.)
Yes, she knows the reveal is supposed to be a secret between scienz_rules_1899 and the refugees, but it's just a song. Indeed, none of the non-refugee patrons seem to be aware that Lucy is actually venting.]

I need a drink.
[ With this broadcast occurring the day after Higuchi and Chuuya's willing departure from Nippon, she needs a fucking drink. After pulling the glass out and placing it on the table, she pauses. No, her desk bar isn't going to cut it. ]
Who else needs a drink? They'll be fifty percent off at the Lounge in Tokyo.
[ Executive decision made. She's already pushing herself up and picking up her device. Guess where she's going? Guess. Ugh. ]

Well, guess I'll just ask the question on everyone's minds, probably. Even if I already know the answer.
Why didn't you tell us sooner?
And for everyone else: think we can get a show of hands of who had a bad time this year? I don't want to throw blame around either, but it'd be faster if we knew who we need to help, right?

like a whole lot
more than most people's brains can handle, actually
so i know a little thing about what happens when you try and act like you can suddenly read the future without sora magic
but also, it's like i said
i don't want this information getting out
and the less time i leave for it to spread, the better
maybe that's a little cold?
but you'll just have to trust me when i say this was my only option

I take it that's why you couldn't warn us about the future, either?

i tried to be all cryptic and shit sometimes
but this loop was actually pretty different from the first
you guys provide such a wildcard to the way our world works
it'd probably be a much more interesting loop to live in than the last one
but i think i'm ready to turn 23 already
so
let's not entertain that idea

I've already had to learn all sorts of shit about string theory and how time isn't linear, but now you're giving out extra homework.
Like I understand not telling the indigenous residents about all this, because it's fucked up and not everyone is equipped for that kind of reality on the fly. But what are chances we can avoid another loop?
Because speaking from experience, trying to stop this shit isn't all that easy and it actually kind of really sucks. To put it mildly.

Something as innocuous as one person wishing they went to the beach more often last summer could be all it takes to tip the scales and cause time to loop again.
But thankfully, just telling all of you this reduces the possibility of a loop by a pretty serious margin. No one's going to be waxing poetic about the past if they think they'll break reality by doing so, you know?

And this isn't a personal issue mind you, I already handled these sorts of feelings at home.
[ She says this, but knows there's still some regrets from how she handled things. But moreso, she's worried about another big bag of regret in her life. ]
It just kind of puts a whole new pressure on the people who might be more prone to this line of thinking. Like aw shit, I gotta get my fuckin' feelings in order before I go breaking the world again.

But that's why it's all the more important for everyone to stick together right now. Even if they can't come to accept or resolve their desire to turn back time, if we give everyone a big enough reason to look forward to the future instead, that might just be enough to tip the balance. Even if it's just something small, like a spring vacation or a promised date.
We don't need everyone, after all. One person isn't enough to break time and space! ...er, normally. Without magi-tech, at least.
