This month, I will be turning twenty. [It feels like a momentous age; a shift into something new. But he has no idea how to celebrate the occasion and thus he brings his questions to the network:]

How would you celebrate a birthday? We didn't make much of a fuss about them with my Master, yet this world is different. I want to try making the day special.

Just know that I am not fond of overindulging in alcohol. Sweet wines are my favorite if I need to choose, but I have my fill of them quickly.

[ That might be a tad teasing, but he takes the offered hand in his own. ]

[He wrinkles his nose at Mingye and squeezes his hand affectionately.]

This way. [Xingchen takes them down a tree-lined path, humming pleasantly.] All of this white is stunning, don't you think?

[ The wrinkling of the nose is cute. ]

I don't mind it. Do you enjoy it?

I do. Maybe I was born in Winter for a reason! [He laughs and points out animal tracks on the snow.] How cute.

[ That gets a bit of a laugh out of him and he shakes his head. ]

Maybe you were born in winter for a reason. One never knows why when it comes to the seasons.

[He leans to the side to nestle their heads together.]

The beginning of Summer suits you, my friend. You have so much fire.

[ That gets a bit of a laugh out of him. ]

I'm a spring child and you decide that summer suits me?

You're at the end of Spring, silly A-Ye. [Xingchen teases, entwining their fingers.] You have more fire in you than you think.

[ He leans into him a bit as they walk, clearly content. ]

I don't know about fire, A-Chen. Darkness, maybe, but not fire. Fire is no good for any of us.

[ He knows what Xingchen means, though. ]

We need fire to keep us warm, don't we? And to cook? As long as the fires are tended, they are not a danger.

[By tended, in this case, he means cared for.]

One does not technically need fire to keep warm. To cook, perhaps, but not keep us warm.

Not with this new technology. [Heaters amaze him.] But back home...yes. I built many fires.

[ Heaters were nice, not that he tended to use it. Warmth came from curling up against Runyu or using his own dark energy. ]

My warmth came from my own energy and I did not mind it.

[ When was the last time he's built a fire? ]

Mm you do have a lot of energy. [Xingchen can retain his temperature with his golden core, but fires are nice and they keep dangerous animals away.]

[ His dark energy would always keep him warm and dangerous animals would have to catch him first. ]

Have I been?

[Not everyone is so powerful. When Xingchen weakens or tires, he must sleep. That time makes him vulnerable.]

Oh yes, your body is strong, your mind is steady and you have all the power you need.

[ The Darknight Court was all about the power, but he doesn't want it. Hadn't wanted it. That was his father. ]

I don't need power.

Your natural power is good, A-Ye. [He lifts Mingye's hand and kisses his knuckles.]

[ He gives a soft smile at the kiss to his knuckles. ]

I have control over my abilities. That's the only power I need.

Such a confident bird! [Xingchen teases, his eyes warm and bright.] I must learn how to preen your feathers instead of ruffling them.

I mean... there are real feathers to preen.

[ Runyu has actually helped when he wants his hair up, so as not to harm the feathers. ]

[Okay that's adorable.]

Alright, then you must teach me. How do I handle your glorious plumage?

[ Hey! He was worried that he'd mess them up and Runyu knew how to help. ]

Really, A-Chen? And here I thought you knew how to handle me.

[ He's teasing, especially since Runyu and Xingchen share custody of him. The tree got booted out somewhere, he thinks. ]
