Is there anyone here who's musically inclined or at least knows a lot of songs? I'm currently looking for a few more to add to my repertoire.

I play the lute, if anyone's asking, and I'm alright at it, but I'm getting some comments like "why are there so many songs about murder" and "why does the only one that isn't about murder involve someone eating their own shit" and I'm starting to think I need to diversify a little bit.

1) I'm shocked, but it's an instrument with a bunch of strings and you pick at the strings and also it's got a neat handle so you can carry it around?

[ She's gonna pick up her lute and head down, then. ]

[a nod to himself, once he gets her message. then he gets his drink and heads over to the common area. he's looking for someone who is holding a guitar.

no one. but there IS someone with another instrument! he comes over, one hand holding the juice, the other hand in his pocket]

Hey! Is that the lute?

Yup! Thought I'd lost it when I got pulled over here, but turns out all my stuff just kinda got shuffled around.

[ She holds it a little closer to him so he can inspect it. It's a pretty well-made instrument, carved out of spruce, as lutes often are, and sure, it's got a few signs of wear, but fuck it. Cordy loves this thing. ]

[he definitely wants a closer look! it’s sort of like a guitar, but not at all what he was expecting!]

Man, that’s so cool! I’ve never seen one of these before.

[ She's just a bit intrigued. ]

They're pretty common where I'm from. My uncle taught me to play, and I'm nowhere near as good as he is, but whatever, it's fun.

[ She's going to play a few notes for Oso! ]

[he's definitely never heard one, nor has he heard this particular song. it sounds very foreign to him... or, perhaps just really old? he's not sure, and it's rude to ask]

Y'sound pretty good to me! Was that song about murder?

[he's joking. probably. though she did say...]

Dude, I honestly forgot the words, so like, it could be.

Of course, I could just play one about murder too if you want.

That's okay! ...I don't know a whole lot about music, but I hope you find more songs for your repertoire! Maybe some people will be able to help you out. It'd be easy to show you my favorite songs if we had the internet here, but...

...I mean, you could try singing.

[ She's pretty sure technology still allows for that, and she's curious even if he sucks. ]

I'm not... I mean... I don't sing all that much but... I guess I could try.

[what can he say? Osomatsu loves entertaining, and being the center of attention. just because he doesn't sing often doesn't mean he can't sing at all.

he thinks about what he wants to sing, and only a few songs come to mind. he closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, and gives it a shot. he's a little shaky, but it's alright. the song would be familiar to some people, but maybe not her]

You might. Nothing I've come across in my research suggests the songs in your repertoire would rank in this year's top ten releases.

Your instrument is something like a biwa?

I think the sound profile is a little different, but I'm not a music expert and I pretty much just do this for fun, so I'm not 100% sure.

[ And true to her word, Setsura will be entering the common area of the Yoshiwara dorm in short order. Through the window? Naturally and she's on her feet easy brushing herself off.

Now then, who...? She cants her head in looking. She's expecting an instrument, so there's a sure start. ]

[ There's a girl holding a medieval-ish style lute in her hands when Setsura arrives.

She gives her a little wave. ]

[ She offers a partial bow and wave in turn as she approaches, brightening between the musician and her instrument. ]

I don't think I caught your name?

[ Or gave her own. Even after being away from her world for so long, she's still too used to her reputation preceding her. ]

Aw, those songs would be well received where I'm from.

Might I suggest something a little more light hearted, like I don't know, a party?

Could work. I'm going to need to steal it off someone else, since, confession time, I'm not really an ~artiste~ and I basically just play this lute for funsies.

Actually, maybe I can show you one of the ones I've learned.

[ She strums a few strings on the lute, and...she's alright? It's not high art, but it's fun and there's not really a lot of glaring flaws in her performance.

Because the mun is not going to write an entire medieval-style folk song, let's just do a bit by bit summary

There is a peasant girl who plays the flute and farms goats

Every day when she takes her goats out to the field to graze, she plays the flute and makes them dance

One day a...princess? Noblewoman? Clearly a lady of high birth, comes by and asks how much she'd be willing to sell one of the goats for.

The peasant girl doesn't ask for money but instead asks the princess to flash her undies. The princess obliges

This goes on for some time, with the princess buying more goats that she pays for by flashing her tiddies and then subsequently having sex with this pig farmer girl in the meadow

Eventually, word gets out that the princess will marry whoever can correctly guess her birthmarks

The peasant girl goes up to the castle and guesses correctly (sun on the left tiddy, moon on the right, and what is implied to be a constellation from Cordy's world on her inner thigh)

Except the princess' parents don't approve so they devise another challenge and ask the princess and peasant girl to spend the night locked up with a random noblewoman, hoping the princess will take her as a lover instead

The peasant girl crumbles a cake onto the table in the room, then tells the noblewoman she's taking a shit

Said noblewoman then ACTUALLY has to take a shit, and is convinced to shit on the table since they're locked in the room

Then the peasant girl is all "no wait, they're going to KILL US if they find out we've shat on their good furniture, obviously we have to get rid of the evidence and the only way for us to do that is to HAVE EACH OF US EAT OUR SHIT PILES"

This results in the peasant girl eating a pile of cake crumbs and the noblewoman...eating literal shit

...yeah look, that's just how folk music is when it's not about death or cool trains ]

[this whole time he wasn't aware of an audio option? But then suddenly there's music and singing and he's nodding along. He's one of the patron gods of theater, with a competition done yearly in his honor, so at the end there's a gap because he's trying to figure out how to turn on his own audio and--

He gives her a rousing clap.]

Hey! Not bad-- definitely something different than normal, you know? Do you do performances?

[ OH JEEZ THAT'S HONESTLY THE FIRST TIME SHE'S SEEN PRAISE THIS SINCERE ]
I mean like, not normally? I'm nowhere near the level someone like my uncle was.

You should perform for me! I'd love it!

[He is very sincere.]

[ For the first time in a while, she's a bit unsure. ]

You sure you wouldn't prefer someone with more actual talent?
