The maiar... well. The ainur are the spirits of the world, those who helped Eru, the One, to first Sing the world into being, and then for love of it descended into it, to be it's life as it is theirs.

They're beings of spirit. Fleshly bodies such as you and I have are... to them like clothes would be for us. Things to wear and change as they please. Most of the maia, who are ... Father thinks I look like my mother. If ever a blossom took a human shape, that was her.
