Hi there.

[He offers a little smile and a wave.]

I guess you could say I'm a new guy here. But I have a bit of a weird question if anyone thinks they can answer it.

[He pushes his fingers through his blond waves before continuing.]

Do you think any of this could be Fae trickery?

[There's a laugh and he waves his hand like he's dismissing his own question.]

Okay, okay. Weirdness aside, what food would you guys recommend me trying? I figured I'd go get something to eat before finding a place to stay.

[He gives a long pause, watching him quietly for a bit before speaking.]

You're Fae? An outcast one?

[It's suddenly easier to soften up about his caution around the Fae. One thing he's always been able to rely on is how they can't lie.]

Mm. My home was the Ruinwood. I could bring people there. I could keep them, and keep others out.

But it was not a place as big as this, and not as populated. It would take a very powerful Fae to do this - more powerful than any I've heard of.

It would. That's why I wasn't sure if it really was something that strong. [He rests his cheek on his hand.]

It just seemed so weird that I had to check. To be safe.

[Speaking of being safe...]

You said you can keep people at your Ruinwood. But would you give people running away from the Fae to them?

[faeshim]

The magic here is strange. I wouldn't call it cruel, but it's enough to entertain.

[and for a lot of fae, that's all that's needed. daeshim frowns at the question - though to be fair, he's always sorta frowning.]

I would not. Some did come to look at my humans, but they never once set foot on the other side of my boundary!

[he might be short and look half a mess, but he's very proud of that!]

[The way he visibly relaxes says a lot. The first being (as if the username weren't a clue already) that he's the runaway he's referring to.]

You're pretty different from a lot of Fae I've met. It's nice.

[Already easier to talk to as well.]

They can keep their courts and their feasts and their orgies.

[maybe he was bitter about it, once, a couple of hundred years ago.]

But wait. How many Fae have you met?

Too many. They keep tracking me down.

[All he wants is to live a nice boring life but nope...]

[that's reason enough alone for the fae that he knew.]

Did you escape them by coming here?

I didn't. I was actually reading a book and then realized I'd read the same page over and over again.

[It's too bad. He'd like to know what happens next.]

Can you keep a secret from other Fae if they arrive?

[faeshim]

One secret? I will keep as many as I can from them.

[That makes him smile. He likes this Fae. The first one he's ever liked honestly.]

I'm a Changeling. If they can get me they're going to force me to pick a court to bow to. But I don't want to be part of all that so I've been on the run ever since they told me.

[faeshim]

A changeling child! You are the first that I have met. Was your life happy before the Fae reappeared in it?

It was! Based on what they told me I was sick so they left me with a human family. Then they figure out I survived and did well and suddenly they think it's cool to want me back.

[He huffs which causes his hair to fly up for a second before falling back again.]

It's stupid. They clearly didn't want me.

[faeshim]

It was a cruel bargain that they made, and then they didn't even honor it.

[he's not surprised. even daeshim isn't free from his own selfishness, though he does try to resist those urges as much as he can.]

Your secret will be safe here, and you as well. I wish you a happy life here, without them.

You're the first Fae I've ever actually liked.

[He gives a little smile.]

[he straightens a little at that, proudly. daeshim hasn't always liked himself because of what he is. he didnt even want to be wanted by them, but he still had to wonder what he wasn't.

Much like you, I was raised without their influence.

[He can't help but smile from that. They both probably have some Fae instincts because that's what they are. But they weren't raised by them so they have different ways of thinking.

It's nice to know someone who gets it in their own way.]

It's nice not being under their influence. Freedom is pretty great honestly.

what do you do with your freedom?

I've been reading a lot. And practicing my magic since I found out a few years ago I have it.

I'm not that great at most of it though. The magic, I mean.

[He shrugs. What can you do when you've never had a teacher?]

[faeshim]

What does your magic do?

So far? I'm pretty good at controlling water. Moving it around and turning it to ice and back. And I can great some nice illusions. That's all I've figured out so I don't know yet if I can do more.

[He's been trying though.]

Have you tried summoning the rain? Conjuring a storm?

Wait. That's something I could do?

[Someone has clearly never thought of this.]

If water answers to you, I would think you are capable!

I never thought that was something you could do when water answers to you. I wouldn't even know where to start with trying.
