I guess you could say I'm a new guy here. But I have a bit of a weird question if anyone thinks they can answer it.

[He pushes his fingers through his blond waves before continuing.]

Do you think any of this could be Fae trickery?

[There's a laugh and he waves his hand like he's dismissing his own question.]

Okay, okay. Weirdness aside, what food would you guys recommend me trying? I figured I'd go get something to eat before finding a place to stay.

I guess the first thing I can think to ask is if your kind knows magic at all.

What many seem to call Magic, my world knows as the Music that created our universe. I use created in the most direct term. Those who are able to hear some of the Music can use it to do some of their will. An example is when I heal, I call upon the Music and the Grace that has been bestowed upon me to remove the illness or wound.

Music and Grace. That's kind of beautiful. Does that mean you're a healer then? Are all Elves healers?

Other races have come to the household I held for thousands of years for healing and learning. It is said by them that there is no comparison to witnessing Elven healing.

[ Dwarves are silly creatures. ]

Elves have a choice between being exceptional healers, or exceptional warriors. It takes a great deal of work to move from making war to healing. Few manage it, and I know even fewer who are successful at both.

[ aka he's a special snowflake who can do both and kick ass at the same time. ]

I guess that would be a really different mindset. Healing versus fighting.

[He's never really had to think about either one. Though he guesses he would be better at healing if he really tried to focus on that aspect of his magic.]

Are Elves long lived?

I believe it is more we put so much of ourselves into fighting or healing, that it is difficult to change that part of ourselves.

Yes. Elves are immortal, death only comes through sickness, grievous wounds, or losing the will to live. Even then, we are Reborn into the Undying Lands once our spirits have healed.

The Undying Lands? It is a place just for Elves?

Mostly. I fear I have broken the rules by, when I went to Sail to them, bringing a halfling along.

The Undying Lands are where the Valar live. The Valar are the ones who sung the first Music, at the guidance of the One, who then created Arda, the world.

Wow. The Elves really sound like a wonderful people.

[So different from his dealings with the Fae.]

We have our darkness, Riley. As any people do. I come from the tail end of a very long, very horrible war. Should you seek Maglor or Maedhros, you will see the marks left on them. I would ask you to try to be kind to them.

I can be kind to them. I don't really plan to be unkind to anyone here. Mostly I'd just like to have something of a peaceful life.

That is a good philosophy. Taking the time here to enjoy peace as can be found.

That's actually my problem I've been having with the Fae. They aren't interested in leaving me to peace. [He sighs.] Elves feel so much nicer really.

And what, if I may ask, do they wish from you that they are so insistent on harassing you?

We do try, most of us at least. Those here do.

To take me away from the life they dumped me in and make me pick between their two sides.

[ A pause. Then a sigh. ]

I believe I understand more than others might. My family is called Half Elven, and we have the choice to be counted among the Elves, and enjoy immortality, or among Men, where death is the known end on Arda. I had to make my choice when I was far too young.

I was sick when I was a baby. So they left me with a human family to die and took their child in my place. They were happy to just think I was dead until they realized I wasn't. Now suddenly I have to belong to them and pick between their opposing courts and...

[He sighs and pushes his fingers through his hair.]

[ Only understanding tempers his expression as he shakes his head a little. ]

There is no need for you to apologize. I thank you for trusting me with this information. If you are forced to make a choice similar to that here, I hope you will call on me for aide.

Yes. I was the Lord of Rivendell, known as the Last Homely House East of the Sea. A stronghold against the Shadow for thousands of years. I might not have the same power here, but it should be enough to help.

[ Elrond only smiles at that. ]

You mentioned a meal before finding a place to stay. If you find nothing that suits you, you are welcome at my home. Maglor and Maedhros live with me, but there is space for more.

Wait. You really mean that? You wouldn't mind?

[ This child is adorable. ]

I do. I am used to a large household and find myself somewhat at a loss with only two.

[A smile appears on his face. This guy had seemed so stern when he first replied but really he's just a super nice person. A caretaker, he'd guess. Makes sense for a healer.]
