[Jingyi loses it. Before he can stop himself, he has Kano wrapped in a hug and he's laughing his head off.

I'm not bad at baking! So let's go make those cookies and you can tell me about these strange sweet pancakes.

[ Kano squeaks in surprise but is happy to cuddle back ]

Breakfast pancakes! Nelyo makes them with honey and butter!

[He leads Kano back inside and starts setting out all the items needed for about a dozen batches of cookies including his own bowls, spoons, and cookie sheets. He doesn't really want to make that many, he just went overboard on the supplies.]

That sounds really tasty! Are they like big cookies or cakes?

[Hmm, a giant cookie with honey and butter on it. That sounds amazing!

Kano said he liked chocolate chip so that's what they'd make first.]

[ The elfling bounces cheerfully after him, clambering up onto a stool to watch him ]

Is very tasty! [ He agrees ]

Is like... a fluffy flat cake? [ He gestures ] Nelyo makes them and stacks them up for Kano! And then pours the honey on top.

I might end up liking your pancakes better than our pancakes.

[He gets a cupful of flour and sets it on the counter.]

Go ahead and dump that in the bowl. How are you at cracking an egg?

Nelyo's pancakes are the BEST.

[ He opinions loyally and obeys ]

[Jingyi snickers, once again finding the boy completely charming. Everyone should have a Nelyo who's food is the BEST, he thinks.

They end up going through a couple extra eggs as one rolls off the table before they notice it and the first one dropped in the bowl is half shell. They get it on the third try!]

I'll have to say an extra thank you to the chicken who gave us these eggs. Learning to bake is an important and honorable skill! She should feel proud.

[He's more careful with the other ingredients since he doesn't want to waste even more food.]

Do you have any animals here on your lands besides the birds? We have rabbits and a donkey.

[ He's more enthusiastic than accurate, but he's VERY enthusiastic ]

Does Jingyi have a chicken friend? [ He is VERY impressed by this ] Can Kano meet them?

[ He hums thoughtfully ]

Kano hasn't heard any other big animals! No deer. But Kano hopes there are squirrels! Kano hasn't seen them though.

I do! And yes, definitely Kano can meet them!

[He shows Kano how to start stirring the ingredients as he adds things to the bowl.]

We have this one male rooster and he's really tiny! They call him a Japanese bantam. He's white with pretty black tail feathers and they kind of stick up. He's really funny. If I talk to him he gets mad easily.

[He snickers thinking about his grumpy, tiny chicken. He was so tempted to call it Jin Ling, but he thought his shushu wouldn't be amused.]

His name is Niu Niu, which means 'bull'.

We also have three rabbits and three baby bunnies. The two boys are Yue and Yang, for moon and sun. One of them is black and the other is white. We have a cream colored little mom and we haven't named the babies yet. There's one of the babies is white and the other two are cream colored like their mother.

[Kano really wanted to know all of this, didn't he?]

[ He wriggles excitedly, bouncing in place ]

Ooooh he sounds funny! Kano wants to meet Niu Niu, pleaaaaaaaaaaase! And bunnies!!!!

[ yes. PLEASE LET HIM HUG ALL THE THINGS ]

I would be alright with it, but we'll ask Neylo when he comes back, okay?

[Walking into someone's house after being invited by a little child is one thing, but taking said child to his own house without permission is quite another! Where were Kano's guardians anyway?

He really hopes whoever they are don't mind the mess they're making! (Albeit, it's a 'Lan' mess. So there's barely a spot of flour on the counter. To Jingyi they might as well have had a food fight in here!

He thinks about all of this while putting their first batch of cookies in the oven.]

Yes! [ He nods agreeably, watching Jingyi with avid eyes.

[He glances around, thinking what they can do in the meantime to keep Kano distracted.]

Do you have any games you like to play? I have chess with me but I don't think you'd like that. I could also play the guqin for you if you'd like.

Whassa Guqin? [ He tips his head curiously ]

Is an instrument?

Yes! It's the instrument my clan learns to play. It helps us channel our spiritual energy.

[Just like he did with all the cookie ingredients, Jingyi opens his pouch and out comes the long instrument. He sits on the floor and rests the guqin on his knees. He gestures for Kano to come closer to look at it.]

I play better than I sing.

[ He scrambles over and sits on his hands so he doesn't touch, staring with wide eyes ]
