To all who may have been accosted by an overly enthusiastic child last month, I apologise, for I knew only love and not fear at that age and was rather supremely spoilt. I hope I did not inconvience anyone overly, and I thank those who were so kind to me in turn.

If I were being honest, I'm just a bit disappointed to find out little Kano isn't going to be around any longer. It's been a long time since I last held a child.

Why were you called Kano back then?

[ Maglor snorts a low laugh ] No offence taken! On my part, however, I'm just as happy to remain my actual age!

It's a diminuitive of my fathername - A baby name, I suppose you would say. [ He explains ] Father named me Kanafinwe - Kano is about all I could manage at that age, and the 'o' ending marks it as masculine name, specifically in a cute fashion.

[Baiyi chuckles.]

Ah! We do something similar. For children, we add an 'A' and use the last syllable of their name, like 'A-Kano' or 'A-Yi', or at an 'er' at the end, like 'Kano'er' or 'Yi'er'. It's also used as pet names for those we're very close to.

Oh! [ He murmurs ] That was what young Jingyi meant... at that age I thought he simply had my name wrong.

That makes sense - my brothers and I used the diminuitive names for each other for many years, even into adulthood, although less and less so as we grew older. You asked about my brother - and indeed, he is here! But he goes by Maedhros, here, not that I would have known that name, at that age.

Maedhros.

[That does sound like a difficult name for a child.]

Sometime you and your brother should come visit me here. I'll have my boys serve you tea. I'd love to get to know your family better. Maybe even that cranky one again.. Elrond.

Elrond is protective over those he loves, and he has lost far too much in his lifetime. [ Maglor says fondly ]

We would be honored to come, although my brother may be a little protective, for a while.

[He smiles, understanding the feeling all too well. It's possible the reason he clashed with Elrond was simply they were too similar in personality.]
