[He sighs heavily as he messes with the device he was given. He's never been very good with these things. Pushing his hands through his hair, he tries to at least get it recording somehow before giving up and just trying.]

Hey. If anyone out there can hear me I'd like some help finding a way to the a forest of some kind. My sense of smell is really thrown here so I haven't been able to figure out which way is up let alone which way is not city.

[He offers a smile but his eyes, though seeming bright, don't seem to ever focus on the screen before he fumbles with things to try to turn if off.]

Crap. What is the off...?

[He ends the recording completely on accident. But it's also what he wants so...great?]

[Ah. There's a trauma there he doesn't fully have the details for. It's not his business so he just nods to show that he understands from the little he knows already.]

I get it. No need to make him worry if you don't have to.

[ Maglor relaxes - it's not something he really wants to discuss if he doesn't have to ]

Exactly. But the woods are close by, and my folk have always been fond of green and growing things.

Mine too. They raised me in the forests and taught me all about them when I was still a child.

You will do well out here then, I think! Here - this clearing is not too far from water or the town, and the trees here are friendly. I come out here sometimes to seek solitude, but there are many such places, and this one is large enough that you would be able to build a shelter easily. So far as I know, the local youkai do not contend this space, either - at the least, I have never been bothered here.

[Lifting his head, he sniffs the air. Sure enough, he can smell water in the air nearby and the smell of people to indicate a town.]

Is there a reason they don't come to this spot?

Too close to town - the town youkai? Those are the smart ones, mostly. Some are basically people, just with powers. The wild ones won't willingly come too close.

That would make sense. Most that are civilized wouldn't enjoy the wilds and the wilds would want to say further away from the civilized.

[bythewaves]

Even so - at least, that's what I think. The trees are also quite obliging, and have been happy to tell me if any approach - although that won't help you so much, I guess.

You're able to speak to them?

[bythewaves]

A little - although it is less speech, and more... understanding, I suppose. I am not a Green-elf! But they are kind, the trees here. More awake. Although that might be because of the nature of this place, I suppose. All the youkai. It would not surprise me if there were tree-folk here.

[He nods in understanding.]

My kind can't hear voices but we do have an idea of when the forest is in trouble. It's like...an instinct. If that makes sense.

[bythewaves]

[ He hums in intrigued understanding ]

The Green-elves of Ossiriand-that-was might have understood you better, but I think I get the gist - Elrond always knew when evil crossed the boundaries of his lands too. So like, but not like, I suppose! Would it offend if I asked what your folk are? You don't have to answer, if you prefer to not.

Werewolves. We can look like this or shapeshift into a wolf. That's the basics of it anyway.

[ Maglor twitches, breath hitching, for a moment, something old, and very dangerous wakes, the scent of a storm, before he pushes it back down ]

Ah. Maybe... if you ever meet my brother, don't tell him that unless he asks. There's is old enmity between us, but for Maedhros it is... at times quite personal.

[ Maglor tended his brother, after Thangorodrim. He knows all too well what the marks of werewolf teeth look like ]

[He can smell the shift, hear the shift in his breathing and the way his heart beats. Tilting his head, he frowns a bit.]

Are they evil creatures where you come from?

[bythewaves]

Servants of the Enemy. [ Maglor confirms, voice very carefully controlled to be utterly emotionless ]

Some, fallen spirits willingly come to his side, shapeshifters bound to physical form. Others... those of my own folk, twisted and forced and bound to his will.

[typhlotic]

Ah. My people are those who were once human and chose to be bitten to have the spirit of the wolf infused in them. They're just...people.

[bythewaves]

Mm. You do not sound like the Enemy's agents. But for my brother... do not mention it, eh?

[typhlotic]

Well I can try to. But until I know his scent and sound, I can't promise I won't accidentally.

[bythewaves]

That is all I can ask. [ Maglor sighs ] He probably smells a lot like me, in truth. But his name is Maedhros.

[typhlotic]

I'll remember the name and try to be careful for his sake. I don't intend to cause harm or distress.

[bythewaves]

I know. [ he breathes and then shoves it all down ]

You can hardly help, being what you are!

[typhlotic]

Well, it was my choice to be one. So that is something I have to keep in mind.

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor winces ]

DEFINITELY do not mention that part. The only ones who would have willingly agreed to such things in my world were... well. The fallen spirits that chose to follow the Enemy in the first place. The Enemy's lieutenant, it was said, enjoyed... mm. 'Suggesting' to his victims that they would one day willingly agree, but I doubt anyone would agree that agreement under torture is 'willing'.

[ He leaves it unsaid but the implication of the fact that MAEDHROS was one of the tortured is... probably not exactly subtle ]
