[ Who looks like she's allergic to clothing, at the moment. At least from the shoulders up. ]

You're a soothsayer? Think you can give me a hint as to how long I'm going to be stuck here?

[ He laughs faintly. ]

Not with any particular accuracy, but let's see.

[ He's not doing anything remotely secret, he has a low table in front of him and he shakes his bag of bones and tosses them. The white pieces of bone clatter on the lacquer. ]

Hm... [ A little showmanship is called for in peering over them. ] You'll see your home again.

[ He returns his gaze to the camera with a smile. ]

[Her nose scrunches up a bit. ]

I figured as much. Do you use bones all the time or do you use other methods?

[spinthron]

[ His head bobs back and forth in a gesture of contemplation, ]

Usually the bones. I'm on the road a lot, not enough room in the pack for the fancy kit.

[ Something about anything 'fancy' being associated with him in the first place makes him smile ruefully. ]

Get a vision every now and again, no instruments required.

[ He doesn't mind admitting that, it says nothing about the accuracy or depths of said visions. For all anyone knows the omens are as deep as his bones in the answers. ]

Mmm. The fates do have a way of pressing the issue when they want to.

[ She watches him, noting how he smiled. ]

There are always tea leaves. [ Stops a beat. ] Do you practice augury?

Birds? Swan Prince would have to be in a good mood for that.

[ Oh right, that probably makes no sense to an outsider. He purses his lips, and sums up what he's saying more tidily. ]

I follow the teachings of a Spider, one of her fellows rules the birds.

[ She pauses for a long moment. ]

We must be from different worlds. While I am aware that the spider is a manifestation of weaving the web of fate, I have the feeling all of that holds a different meaning for you.

Kingdom of Five Beasts. That's my home country. Nothing like this Nippon.

[ Well, not nothing. He has actually fit in pretty easily. But it's really missing blood thirsty ghosts and radiant celestial animals. ]

I was born under the Crying Spider's constellation.

[whrrenah]

[ Her mouth opens into a little surprised 'o' ]

Completely foreign to me, then. My world holds several zodiacs, depending on which region you grow up in. In the spot where my parents live, I'm a cancer with its animal being the crab, element is water. In Chinese folklore, my zodiac is the tiger, element is earth. And with Native Americans, I would be a woodpecker.

[ Cheerfully amused. ]

I'm not sure if I want to know my fortune. Playing it by ear has been working decently well for me for about a hundred years now. That a skill of yours though? Telling fortuntes?

[ He spreads his hands in casual invitation. ]

To a degree.

[ Interesting commentary from a man who offers to tell fortunes. ]

But I suppose you could call it a skill. More like it just is, though. Can't practice the intuitions.

I've never actually had that done before. Would you mind if I asked how you do it?

[typhlotic]

Can't say I hear that often from a fortune teller.

[But it's refreshing. He likes it.]

So you get feelings and then you've learned to read what those feelings are?

[spinthron]

[ He holds up the little leather satchel that holds his bones for the camera, then he dumps them out into his palm. Each of the five pieces is different, from different animals and different parts of the body. Each is crudely marked with a stripe of colored paint; hand done. ]

I shake up this bag and then I pour 'em out. How they land and which way has something to say.

[ Hah, that rhymed. ]

Sounds about right.

[ He knows so much more about it than he will let on. The surface level of his skills are breezy to admit to, but his training with the temples is kept secret.

He gives his bag of bones a cheerful little shake. ]

This lot just give those feelings a little direction.

So it's like...the universe guides them? Or is that not really accurate...

[ Not really that far off. One just had to think of everything in threads when there's a primordial spider involved. ]

[Rather than look toward the bag on the screen, Silvio actually just...tilts his head. Like he's trying to identify a sound that seems familiar but isn't at the same time.]

...Is that bone?

[He's pretty sure that's what he heard.]

Mhm.

[ He pours the five pieces out into his hand. One is definitely a delicate little bird skull. ]

That's amazing that you can read what all that means. I'm not sure if I could do something like that.

[Again, he doesn't seem to be looking at them. Instead, he's tilted his head toward the screen to listen more closely.]

You use bone for your fortune telling? They sound...small?

[It's so hard to tell on these devices.]

Probably not, sorry. [ Friendly laughter. ] Gotta be born with it, the little guides just help focus.
