[These messages pop up close to the middle of the night.]
Hello?
Ah, hello. I've arrived recently, trying to get my bearings. Little miffed that my phone doesn't work. RIP my art app.
If anyone knows of any good sources of paper and pencils, or even colored inks or paints, I'd be grateful. And will make you something with it. If you like artwork. I primarily do almost-realism but I've also done more abstract works and metalworking pieces.
[Then, several minutes later...]
Actually, I should probably confirm this first: are there any butchers that sell meat that tastes as close to nothing as possible? Or meat that tastes as not-meat as possible? Is that a thing? I hate it but my diet requires it. I got used to artificial rations and their super bland flavors over the years. (‘A`)

un: tapir
but that may be a question for the butchers themselves
i don't eat it very often
there's a shopping arcade in downtown osaka called shinsaibashi
that might be your best bet for your other request
i hope that's a little helpful! ( ・ω・)ノ
no subject
And I have to eat a lot to keep up with my metabolism. :(
But! That information in general is very helpful, and I'm grateful! ′▽`
no subject
is it the meat itself you need or the nutrients it provides?
you're welcome! i have a lot of free time so i do a lot of exploring
i'm from japan so i like seeing all the differences ヾ(^∇^)
no subject
I'm an obligate carnivore, so having to go back to basics is.. hard after so long of not violating my moral preferences. And I've never liked the taste of meat even as a kid, either. (。•́︿•̀。)
There is a Japan in my world too, though I only visited a few times over the years. Not enough to grasp any subtle differences.
Where do you like to explore?
no subject
maybe you could talk to the scientists too? they have all sorts of people here
surely they know how to meet refugee needs
i've lived in japan for most of my life
and that's kind of a long time
so even the subtle differences are hard to miss for me
its hard to say what i like though
i really do like seeing everything
no subject
I don't like talking to people like that if I can help it. But maybe that's just me being stubborn for no reason these days. I'll consider it.
[He doesn't want to hurt anyone on accident, either, but his pride won't let him do anything but try to tough it out for now, even though there's possibly a very easy answer with the scientists. They're smart, and some of them seem kind enough. But it's not enough yet for Glenn to make an opinion on them either way.]
I think I can understand your feeling on the matter, at least to some extent. :)

I’m not sure if that sort of meat exists around here, but I imagine you could get some kind of sustenance out of eating the paper if your search turns up nothing.
Barring that, you could always try boiling meat?
no subject
I've tried that, some time ago, but maybe boiling it is worth trying again.
You're clearly joking about eating paper. It has no nutritional value, and in fact, it would very likely make me quite ill.
no subject
I’m sure there’s some kind of benefit to eating the paper here, what with the whole… magical loop thing or whatever it’s called
But I’m not quite sure what you mean by phone or app. But you’ll very quickly find out there’s all sorts here, and you can probably find someone to help you with that, too.

I can also pull its keyboard into the air itself. Or even underwater. Makes it easier to type. Not sure how waterproof these are.
An app is a man-made program that serves a function. In my case, it simulates the look and feel of different kinds of pens, brushes, and paper, but allows me to experiment without using it physically. Like... painting on glass, except the paint cans never empty.
Whatever benefit eating paper might be to some, it's not to me.
[He's not sure what will make his distaste clearer, so he opts to go for a more graphic description.]
I get violently ill if I put any sort of plant matter into my stomach. And while being exposed to the loop might make experimenting easier, I have no desire to repeat it again. Even if you offered to hold my hair back. Or paid me. :/
no subject
Ah. Got it. [ He absolutely doesn't got it. ]
That's interesting. Any sort of plant matter? So you can't eat anything except meat, and even then it has to taste like nothing? You're not a vampire or anything, are you? [ he's only recently learned what those are, and even then he's not exactly sure what they are. ]

Food without flavor?! I'd die. I think I'd ACTUALLY die.
Please, let me acclimate you to flavor once again. You do not have to suffer rations!
[ France being... unapologetically France. Hm. ]
no subject
But I like rations? There's no real taste, so there's nothing for me to hate about it. I used to cook meals for myself when I was younger, and so I remember what I'm missing, and I remember what flavor is. But meat doesn't taste like delicious vegetables....
Don't worry yourself over it.
no subject
Please, I'm not worrying myself over it. I would be honored to help!
[ He is a rather stubborn man. One that probably just insulted Glenn's early attempts at cooking. Unintentionally. ]
no subject
But at a certain point, I could not derive nutrition from those foods other than maybe eggs. And even then it was dicey.
And what my body needs to survive is what I have always detested since I was four.
So eating the foods I want to will make me horrifically sick. The foods I hate and make me nauseous to put in my mouth are what will keep me alive. I'll take rations that taste like nothing so I don't live in agony either way.
[Hella insulted. Because damn did he love to cook and make varied foods and flavors. It's what he misses almost the most about when he was still human.]

But this is a slightly different world compared to my own, and a different time, so maybe there might be some differences? But the animal species are the same. Just... far backward in time, for me.
I've never seen the world without regular spaceports and air traffic.
[But, is it really that easy to give things a try again?]
no subject
And this world is less advanced then mine when it comes to technology, but we certainly didn't have spaceports either.
no subject
Unfortunately, my body only absorbs the most nutrition the LESS it's cooked. As close to raw as possible before there's a risk of getting sick. Red meats work the best, with fish and poultry coming in behind. Even though if I had to, I'd prefer being able to cook my food to hell and back, or at least mix it with veggies, but no.
I can still have eggs, but again, needing to cook them before I find them palatable... They're just so slimy raw!
And I can't even season anything because, again, plants.
[Augh, he doesn't mean to be dramatic, but, well. He's been uprooted from his usual normal, and having to adapt to change is hard. And he's definitely feeling petulant for it right now.]
Ahhh sorry, I shouldn't complain. I'll have to make do one way or another.
no subject
I'm not sure if there is a way to fix that, if you can't mix anything with it.
You could try magic, perhaps there is a spell that can help.

but having eaten food goo for the last few years
i know what you mean about getting used to bland things
i don't know where to find something like that though
so i guess i'm not much of a help
no subject
Food goo sounds interesting! Was it really goo?? :O I'd just have these bricks of ration bars that just have all the calories and nutrients I need, and have an artificial taste. Just a glass of water to soften it up if it's gone stale and down the hatch in like five minutes.
I'm an obligate carnivore, and my body's kinda messed up and won't digest anything but raw meat very well. I can cook things, but it doesn't sit right. (I mean it doesn't sit right anyway, but even worse if it's cooked.)
[Wait. Should he just make meat smoothies? Oh god that sounds so gross why did he think that??]
no subject
altean goo is green and galran goo is purple
the flavor is seriously lacking though.
i guess it was probably something they used
to make it easy to make and store in space.
but when you're really hungry and don't care what you eat
it's not awful.
you know
i never really thought to find out what the different people we ran into ate.
i know bugs were a thing
because coran tried to feed that stuff to us before.
but i don't know about others.
have you tried hunting?
or is there nothing here that's really huntable?
no subject
Yeah that's understandable. Uhh.
I've hunted before. It's a little distressing.
I was vegetarian before - by taste preference and moral choice. So... it's a bit of a pickle. (Oh no now I want pickles.)
I may have to hunt. At least I taste fewer things as a dog-thing....
