[These messages pop up close to the middle of the night.]
Hello?
Ah, hello. I've arrived recently, trying to get my bearings. Little miffed that my phone doesn't work. RIP my art app.
If anyone knows of any good sources of paper and pencils, or even colored inks or paints, I'd be grateful. And will make you something with it. If you like artwork. I primarily do almost-realism but I've also done more abstract works and metalworking pieces.
[Then, several minutes later...]
Actually, I should probably confirm this first: are there any butchers that sell meat that tastes as close to nothing as possible? Or meat that tastes as not-meat as possible? Is that a thing? I hate it but my diet requires it. I got used to artificial rations and their super bland flavors over the years. (‘A`)

I really hate meat, but my body requires animal proteins in order to process most things, even vitamins and minerals. I used to be vegetarian growing up before everything changed. :( And I haven't had to eat meat in years because there were always synthetics available. I could eat a protein bar and be okay. Here, it's either meat or starve for me.
I'm not a vampire, but something along those lines all the same. If only in diet. Red meat and blood work best, but I can get by with poultry or fish. But poultry is harder because some part of me is still human and is susceptible to getting sick from undercooked bird. And the fish has to be super clean.
It's just a big pain in the butt. ●∧●

At the time he'd wondered how they'd managed to survive, immediately pegging them as weak despite the notion that vegetables were a necessary staple to any well-balanced diet. But if one didn't want to kill animals to live, then there was no saving them.
Of course he won't say that out loud to someone he's just met. ]
One of my acquaintances has said he gets synthetic blood from somewhere. I could ask him next time I see him, or you could probably find him on the network yourself. I think. [ He's not really sure how the search function works, in all honesty. Even Snezhnaya was only developed so much. ]
It sounds like a big pain in the butt! Admittedly it sounds like you're a picky eater, but if these things cause you to become physically ill there's no helping it. I suppose I should say sorry.
In any event, if my acquaintance can get synthetic blood then I'm sure it's not a matter of can or can't but where. It's not much help but I hope it's something.

Blood will probably be the least offensive first step I can take.
[It'll probably be safer than hunting as a dog and accidentally snaring something able to curse him...]
I do appreciate your input on the matter! Even if it doesn't work out well, I'd like to thank you somehow.
Oh! I'm Glenn, by the way. I'm pretty easy to spot among full-blooded humans, since my hair is different. See username?
I think it's kinda clever. :D
[It's really, really not. It's literally the first thing that came to mind that wasn't something standard like gsparks or something.]
no subject
are they actually in the network or something ]
Nice to meet you, Glenn. You can call me Child!
There’s really no need to thank me, especially since I don’t think I really did anything, haha. I wouldn’t turn down a spar, though, if you think you’re up for it. Just as long as you know I’m the sort of person who won’t hold back.
[ A beat later he adds, as though he hadn’t just asked some random stranger on the network to fight: ]
Also, I think there’s something wrong with your device? I keep seeing strange symbols.

They really haven't changed too much ever since they were made in my world, more than 1000 years ago. Usually, I'd just find an expression and tap it on my phone, but with this device, one has to type them manually.
This is an interpretation of shrugging one's shoulders! 乁( •_• )ㄏ
But these are simple happy faces. :D :)
Or sad faces. :( :<
But sparring? That I can do. I don't usually have anyone to square off against, but I can make the exception. I need the exercise anyway.
I don't expect you to go easy on me; I can take most things. But know that I will most certainly be going easy on you. I have to figure out how your strength goes up against mine first. I'm more than capable of dealing grievous injury to others, and I'd rather avoid that.
[Fortunately, he's happy enough to go with the flow of things here. And he has been pretty lonely lately, so having someone to grapple with might be fun. Or maybe it's his inhuman instincts that are happy to do so.
[Either way, so long as he's careful, the only potential risk is against himself, not Child. And that's more than an acceptable risk. A bit of a smile crosses his face.]
Where would you like to? When? I'm most awake at night, but early evening or early morning are doable as well.
no subject
Hahaha, that sure is something! 乁( :D )ㄏ
I’ve never seen that before. I can’t help but wonder if it might not be easier switching over to video, but I can definitely see the appeal.
[ it feels a lot like something his siblings would enjoy. Maybe he can start drawing faces in the margins of his letters; whenever he gets back to Tevyat, of course.
Glenn can’t see it, but the response to his casual challenge for a spar gets an extremely pleased reaction out of him. At last, a kindred spirit. ]
:) Fighting talk, I love it.
I would prefer you didn’t go easy on me. I hope you don’t take me for some kind of wide-eyed novice; at least do me the respect of giving me your all.
We can call that you thanking me for helping you.

Text is easier to me regarding lengthy communication. I tend to speak a little slowly, besides.
I'm not going into this with any particular expectations in terms of mastery nor that of a beginner. As such, you'll have to see for yourself as to why I insist on holding back.
Unfortunately, I don't really want to go into why I think the way I do on this matter. At least, not without meeting up with you a few times.
I'll be watching to see what you can handle of me. And I'll also be watching out for what I can handle of you. And if nothing else, I will communicate with you on the matter while we're at it.
I think that's pretty fair for the both of us, but I understand if you disagree.
[It's a bit hard for him to concede, considering that he's, in so far, not run into anyone stronger than himself in terms of in-person combat, and also has had no inclination to get stronger than he already is. Paranoia and terror run along the forefront of his mind - he can't repeat his past irreversible mistakes.
[But he really, really wants to grapple with this stranger just for the person-to-person contact.
[Ugh.]

[ What was the laughing emoji? He can’t remember. Ah, well he’s sure his point is getting across regardless. ]
It’s been my experience that the truly strong humble themselves, keeping the true measure of their strength hidden until such time that it’s needed. Your aversion to utilizing your full abilities despite not knowing just how strong I am makes me more excited than you could ever know.
If it eases your concerns, why don’t we make it a simple challenge; first blood?
Seeing as how you seem to need it, I imagine that won’t pose much of a problem for you. If you don’t think you can control yourself, don’t worry; apparently I “taste different”. I doubt it will be to your liking.

[Unseen, Glenn stares at his device like a deer in headlights.
[As such, Child doesn't get a response for several minutes.]
WHAT.
[Give him another few minutes to actually get his brain back, okay?]
no subject
[ Well, Childe had never heard of an app before, so maybe that made them even. In some way. ]
:)
no subject
[Which. Isn't a lie. Besides, it's entirely doubtful that Childe was suggesting that he "try his blood" or anything. The thought gives him shivers. But now the thought is in his mind and. What if he likes it? That could be a really big problem. If he likes it and wants to do it more, what of his careful self-control on such matters?
[What if he eats a person????]
I shouldn't be excited about fighting a stranger. A lot could go wrong...
[It's weird feeling both fearful as well as Ready To GO.]

You’re fine
Honestly, that’s what makes them the most fun. Judging from your words, like you said, I don’t think I’ll have to hold back at all
As for the time and place… you said you’re usually up pretty late? I’m usually up pretty early. Maybe we could meet somewhere in the middle.

I'm still adjusting to being in a stable solar cycle, so anywhere from... 5pm through 8am is good to me. Give or take.
If not, it'll take me some time to get used to a more daylight-friendly schedule. I'm willing to, if necessary.
I'm nocturnal, unfortunately. And my eyes are primarily adjusted to starlight rather than that of a sun, of late. Space is big and likes to be dark. :) So I'm used to seeing in minimal light.

but Shell probably would have started weeping like a baby ]
I'd hate to take you at a disadvantage - so that's fine. We can plan ahead in the upcoming weeks, when your eyes finish adjusting.
[ like a playdate or a fightdate, really. ]
no subject
I'll definitely shoot you a message as soon as I can function around that time. I mean, I can fight well enough even sleep-deprived, but if you're going all-out, I'll need all the coordination I can get.
[Definitely a playdate. A playdate that involves fighting.]
I look forward to seeing how close to equal we are.
[He's probably not going to get any good sleep later, oops. Too excited!!]

I'll probably be a little busy in the upcoming weeks, since that water park opened, but I'd rather do this sooner rather than later. I feel fortunate that ever since I've arrived here I've had no shortage of strong opponents to go up against, haha. Truly, life is good.
:)
