[ Sephiroth understands his intentions immediately and raises his arm. He pops one of his materia out of his bracer and holds it up for the other man to see. ]

I can.

[ Besides actual combat or sparring, there is nothing better than discussing techniques. ]

[Wufei lets out a pleased sound as he looks at the materia.]

So it's that... device that give you the ability to cast spells? Is it a general energy source, or specific to a given spell?

[He was an academic once upon a time, and he finds the magic here equal parts frustrating and fascinating. He has so many questions.]

Materia.

[ And he's all too happy to launch into an explanation about them, including this one specifically, which happens to be a Fire Materia. His favorite. ]

I used Cure and Esuna on you before.

[ Cue more explanations while Sephiroth returns the Fire Materia to his bracer and pops those out to show that they are different shades of green. ]

[Wufei listens intently, nodding along and asking relevant questions occasionally.]

I must admit I was surprised to notice they seemed to work on me -- it did nothing for the blindness, that resolved on its own. How wide is the range of colors? Is each spell associated with its own specific color?

[And, he wonders, can one get their hands on them here. Magic sounds useful. Very, very useful.]

[ Cue more explaining. It's probably the most Sephiroth has spoken at once in a long while. He elaborates on the different kinds of Materia, from offensive, buffing, debuffing, to healing and their associated colors which actually vary less than one would think. ]

What do you weild?

[ Because he's curious now. ]

[Wufei listens intently, carefully filing the information away for later, in case it becomes useful. When Sephiroth asks the question he resists the urge to look at Duo and instead smiles, straightening up a little.]

These days I have only a sword, but during the war... I piloted a mobile suit called a Gundam. A sixteen meter tall machine in the shape of a man. She was magnificent.

[And then he tells Sephiroth some of the details -- only the ones that would've been public knowledge in his own world. That the metal had to be made in microgravity, that it was expensive and difficult to make, that there were only a handful of Gundams but many mobile suits that had been made of lower quality materials, what sorts of weapons his suit had been equipped with, how she'd (and he was very consistent about it being a she) been refitted to fight in outer space, without the protections of Earth's atmosphere.]

[ It's clear from the tiny curl to Sephiroth's lips that he's both genuinely enjoying himself and very, very interested. While he has no need for such a...vehicle? suit? piece of armor?? he can see the wider applications. Then there is the more important fact: ]

What is outer space like?

[ Truthfully, Sephiroth loves space, the stars, everything. It all seems so peaceful to him. Of course, he wouldn't mind the additional challenge of fighting there either. ]

[The question gets a positively wistful look.] It's home. [But he knows that's not what Sephiroth means.]

It's dangerous. Even the slightest mistake can kill you. Regular maintenance and vigilance are necessary, and the constant knowledge that you're one broken screw away from death can be too much for some people. But for me, it will always be where I am most comfortable. The sensation of microgravity is beyond compare, and the view... [He can't do it justice with words alone.]

[ Sephiroth closes his eyes as the man speaks, so intent is he on visualizing all that is being said. ]

I would like to experience it for myself.

[ That being one of the highest compliments he can give. ]

[Wufei hums in agreement, nodding even though Sephiroth has closed his eyes.] If it becomes possible, I would be happy to show you. Going to the floating islands and using the wing backpacks is the closest you can get here.

[ Sephiroth opens them again at that. He's heard of such a place but hasn't bothered to visit it yet. ]

Is that so?

[ This is him being very interested. ]

[He nods again.] It's not quite as good, it's only flying after all, but it's very pleasant. [It's one of his favorite things, he means.] It can be difficult if you're not a skilled pilot, but I'd be happy to accompany you.

I would like that.

[ Sephiroth makes no mention of his own abilities. He likes testing others to prove their worth and this sounds like a fun challenge. A little of his enthusiasm shows in his eyes and the way they narrow just the slightest bit. ]

[He knows that look, and it makes him smirk. Sephiroth thinks he can best a gundam pilot?

Now that's something Wufei has to see.] If you're looking for a real challenge, we should invite Duo along. He's an even better pilot than I am. Best in the earth sphere, in fact.

[ This man is speaking his language, but then-- ]

In that case, there is someone I would like to bring.

[ He is sure Aerith will like this and he will enjoy having her for an audience. ]

[An audience? His smirk only gets bigger.] Oh? And who might that be? I wouldn't want to embarrass you in front of someone special.

[He's only half teasing -- if Sephiroth wants to impress someone, Wufei is more than happy to help.]

[ Sephiroth picks up on that but, as usual, doesn't care what anyone else thinks. He does smirk a little though--a proven tactic sure to inspire others to try their hardest against him, along with what he says next. ]

You seem confident. That's good.

[ The clear implication being don't disappoint me. ]

[The smirk escalates to a full-on grin.] If you really want to up the stakes, bring a sword.

[ Sephiroth closes his eyes in a slow blink. ]

There are not many who would make such a request of me.

[ Sephiroth has so many doubts. No one has ever come close to equaling him, after all, and the only ones who could hope to try are his fellow SOLDIER 1sts. ]

[He tips his head forward in a nod.] If you're concerned I'm asking for more than I can handle, let's agree not to aim for any death blows. Call it friendly sparring with live steel, hmm? Besides, you have healing magic. [He shrugs, as if getting wounded would be no big deal.]

[ Sephiroth never turns down a challenge, not that this will be one. ]

I will not take your life.

[ That is Sephiroth for okay, fine. ]

[If nothing else, holding back might be challenging.]

Likewise. [Though he's starting to realize he probably doesn't stand a chance -- it wouldn't be the first time he's challenged someone here only to find himself wildly outclassed. It was a very good motivator.]

How about this evening as the sun is setting?

[ Instead of responding out loud, Sephiroth nods once in acknowledgement and ends the call. He will need to inform Aerith of their plans next. ]
