[Video] un: shutterflash

GUYS! Guys you're not gonna believe this!

I was out for a jog, just trying to find a good route, y'know? And I think I went out too far and... I FOUND MY GIRL!

[Prompto looked and sounded excited and he's quick to move forward and, after a little fiddling, he's set his magi-comm down on a wall and hurried back to pose all cool like with a big, yellow and equally cool looking chocobo!

Until Prompto hurries forward again, grabs up the device and comes back to lean into the neck of his chocobo and a less cool and more cheerful scene fills the screen!]

This is Birb guys! And yeah, I know, silly name right? But she liked it!

[Birb lets out a loud kweh and ruffles her feathers, clearly agreeing with Prompto's words. What had originally been a joke was a name she'd liked a lot and now wouldn't answer to anything else. After the fluff she began grooming Prompto's hair, much to his delight and embarrassment. He gives a half-hearted attempt to bat her away but, in the end, lets her mess his hair up as she will.]

That's it! Just wanted to show her off! She's pretty, right?

[ The minute the chocobo came into view, Noctis's face lit up and he immediately looks up at his best friend. ]

Prompto! That's him!

[ It doesn't take long before the chocobo reaches them, immediately coming to a stop beside Noctis. He looks just as good as he did the last time Noctis saw him at Wiz's, the four medals on his chest glinting in the sun. Noctis reaches up and wraps his arms around the chocobo's neck, ruffling its feathers before taking a step back and looking back up at Prompto. ]

Do you think we'll have enough room for both of them? We have a decent amount of land behind the house.

Dude it's totally him!

[Prompto was excited, he'd pushed himself so he was almost standing up atop his chocobo and couldn't help cheering along with Birbs happy calls.

By the time Solis had reached them Prompto had sat back down only to lean against his own chocobos neck, his grin wide and happy.]

Think it'll do for now. We can always work on something? The weather's good. I don't think they'd wander far from us. But maybe we should build them a pen or somethin?

We could build something like Wiz had, with a stall for each of them... maybe a fence around the entire area just to be on the safe side. I don't want anybody wandering too close and trying to take one of them.

[ With ease, Noctis hops up and settles himself into the saddle. If he's being honest with himself, while he's happy to have his own chocobo here with him, he's a little sad that he's not getting back on to the chocobo behind Prompto, wrapping his arms back around his waist. He knows damn well he shouldn't be thinking these things about his best friend - there's no way Prompto would go for that.

So, he pushes the thoughts to the back of his head again, trying to focus on Solis and Birb and getting them back to their new house safely. ]

Ready to go?

Could totally do that! Bigger and better too, we've the space for it!

[The grounds they've been given were pretty extensive so he had no doubts they could do something. They just needed to source the materials to build and Prompto felt he could get on that as soon as tomorrow!]

You any good at drawing? You could make us up some plans.

[Prompto was smiling as he turned Birb around to head them back the way they'd come.

And yes, he missed Noct behind him. Somehow it felt a little colder... But he pushed that aside so that he was able to smile over at his best friend.]

Drawing? Are you kidding me? You know I'm not an artist, Prom. [ A pause ] But I'll try.

[ They ride in silence for a few minutes, Noctis following closely behind Prompto, still trying not to think about their ride together. It would be easier if Gladio or Ignis were here to knock some sense into him, he thinks. ]

It would be nice to see some other chocobos here, maybe a black one. I think some of the guys down the street from us would like to have one, too... They seemed to know what chocobos are, at the very least.

Heh, we could do it together then.

[Because okay, yeah, Nocts ability to draw was about as good as Prompto's ability to fish! But a collective effort might be better?]

Maybe we could try, I dunno, breedin them? Maybe we'll get a black chick in the bunch? Those guys are so damn cute. I hope I get to see the one at Wiz's all grown up!

And its weird, right? How many people not from Eos know about chocobos?

[ The thought of drawing up plans for the land he won in the lottery together with Prompto brings a smile to Noctis's face. He looks over at Prompto when he hears the next suggestion, though. ]

Breed them? [ A pause ] You just want to make our house Tokyo's version of Wiz's, don't you?

[ Which, all things considered, wouldn't be a bad idea. Noctis enjoys Wiz's whenever they would visit, always loved racing the chocobos, too. ]

That'd give the people who aren't from Eos a chance to own a chocobo, too... But it is weird that other worlds have them, though.

Why not? What else're we gonna do? Could find a job or something, but wouldn't it be more fun if we did something together?

I guess... settling down here's something we should think about. Dunno how long we'll be here. Could be years. [He looked away from Noct then and down to the leather reins in his hands. Prompto lightly rubbed his thumbs across the well worn leather.] Maybe you'll wanna find a wife and settle down, have kids and stuff. I think I'd be happy being Nippon's Wiz.

[Prompto flashed Noct a grin here.]

Could share the wealth. Sell off the chicks or hire them out. Maybe race them?

[ Noctis slowly comes to a stop, looking over at Prompto at his talk of settling down here and... getting a wife? That's not even something he was interested in back in Lucis, just something he was expected to do as Crown Prince and, now, King. ]

A wife and kids? [ Noctis pauses, silent for a moment. ] Prompto, what the hell makes you think I want to settle down with a wife and kids here?

[ None of the other questions about the chocobo farm, about racing the chocobos, building a business together are addressed because Noctis can't even focus on those things right now, not with Prompto planning their lives out for them, complete with a wife and kids. ]

[Prompto took a few seconds to realise that Noct had stopped moving and pulled Birb to a stop too. He looked over his shoulder... and gave his friend a funny look.]

Uh... I dunno? It's the done thing, isn't it? Getting married and stuff? You don't have to have kids or anything!

[But he knew a lot of people around here, the refugees like them, were married. At least that's what he'd heard. So really he'd just assumed that was what would be expected of them, what with the whole 'bonding' thing he kept hearing about too!]

Why wouldn't you wanna fall in love and get married? Kinda romantic, don'tcha think?

I guess it's romantic, just never really something I've thought too much about since it was just my duty as future king.

[ Noctis knows that's just what people do when they get older, get settled down and have a family or something of that nature, but that's just... not how things work when you're royalty. He was expected to marry the oracle, she was expected to stand by his side to protect Lucis... And that's not really something either of them wanted, considering they were nothing more than close friends, almost like siblings, but something they had to do.

How does he tell Prompto this? Does he just come right out and say it? He looks up at the sky, praying to the Astrals to help him get through whatever the hell this conversation has turned into. ]

Plus, I don't know that I'd want a wife.

That's my point! Now you can just do it for you!

[Prompt turned Birb around and trotted back over to Noct, warming to the subject now.]

Well duh, you'd wanna girlfriend first! We should find you one. There's loads of cute girls around. Did you see that girl with the wings? She's really pretty! [And it's here he realises he can't actually wing-man his bestfriend if he doesn't know where all the women go... How can he find one for Noct if he doesn't know where they are? Maybe he could post something on that network and see if anyone would want to go on a blind date with Noct? That would be seriously cute!

He leaned against the neck of his chocobo, arms draped down and grinned.]

No rush either, I was just sayin, you can do anything you want here. You don't have to just do what's expected of you!

[ His best friend is a fucking moron. ]

Prompto.

[ Noctis sighs and rubs at his face for a second, still not making eye contact with Prompto. He can't even look at his best friend right now, his face probably the darkest shade of red.

This was a conversation that was never supposed to happen, a conversation he never even needed because he would marry Luna and that would be the end of it. After she was killed, things took a turn and priorities shifted... so dating and marriage was never discussed after that. ]

Did you not hear me? I said I didn't know if I'd want a wife. That means I don't know if I'd want a girlfriend, either.

[He wasn't a moron! He just didn't know what was going on inside of Noct's head. And as well as he knew his bestfriend, this wasn't something they'd ever really discussed before. It had only been an off-hand comment too! But Noct was taking it so seriously...

Prompto lost his smile and sat himself up straighter in his seat, hands coming up in surrender.]

Alright alright, I heard you. Sorry, I didn't mean to bring it up... I just want you to be happy, buddy. That's all! Now we're here we can do some of those things. For me? Chocobo farm! For you... maybe not worryin about what a King would do and thinkin more about what a Noct wants to do.

Maybe Noct wants a boyfriend.

[ There. He said it. ]

Prom, I figured saying I didn't want a wife or a girlfriend was clear enough, but I guess not. [ He sighs, finally looking over at Prompto ] I was never given the option of dating another man, you know? Had to carry on the royal family and all.

[ There were just so many things that kept him from showing interest in anybody but women.. And, even then, the girls were mostly just after him for his title. He knew from a young age that the future king of Lucis would be with the Oracle. Which, unfortunately for Noctis, was somebody he considered to be a best friend, a sister. ]

And then there was the thing with Luna, something else neither of us had a choice in.

[Prompto just stared. A blush climbed up his neck to cover his cheeks and he really kind of wanted to turn around and run. He fidgeted as Noct kept on talking, so much so that Birb fluttered her wings anxiously, reacting to her rider.

Maybe saying Noct hadn't wanted a wife or girlfriend should have been clear, but why would it? Why would he have even considered that as an opinion when Noct had never shown any interest in guys? Prompto didn't like being made to feel stupid. But he also felt pretty stupid. And embarrassed. He tried to laugh it off but it was weak and pathetic to his ears and made him wince. So he stopped that.]

R-right... That too. It's what I meant, y'know? Doin what you want... Even if it's with a boy.

[And wasn't that just mind-bending? He's spent all these years convinced that Noct was straight... Why hadn't Noct ever told him?

Maybe even being bestfriend didn't mean he was close enough to know such private information. It made him wonder if Ignis or Gladio knew? This was so weird. Prompto couldn't quite meet Noct's eyes.]

But it's cool, y'know? You like who you like. I totally get that.

[ And this is why he never said anything to anybody about also being interested in men... because he was afraid of this happening. He knew it would make things awkward between them. Hell, he never even said anything about it to Ignis and Gladio, though he's fairly certain Ignis knew. At the very least, Ignis knew he wasn't thrilled about having to marry Luna. ]

Prom, don't... Don't make things awkward.

[ Because nothing is going to change. He sure as hell isn't going to admit that he enjoyed holding on to Prompto on the back of a damn chocobo now and risk ruining their friendship over a stupid crush on his best friend. ]

I never said anything for a reason. Why talk about my preferences when it ultimately didn't matter? [ A pause ] And there's always the chance that it's going to ruin friendships, cause unnecessary attention on my family thanks to the media... you know, just easier to keep it a secret.

[ Can they go back to discussing their chocobo farm? And not this? Noctis wants to crawl in a hole. ]

Huh? I'm... That's not...

[His shoulders sagged. Prompto wasn't deliberately trying to make things awkward. It really didn't matter to him who Noct liked or didn't like. What mattered to him was that Noct didn't feel like this was something he could talk to him about. But he'd made him do it anyway.

So he nodded his understanding and took a deep breath. He made himself smile, despite the flush to his cheeks.]

Y-yeah. It's doesn't matter, I guess. You don't have to tell me any more, Noct. I won't say anythin.

It's not gonna ruin our friendship... so um... lets just head back, eh? Yeah. Think we should head back.

[It didn't matter he'd loved the guy since the day he'd met him. An impossible fantasy that had eased off a lot over the years, especially once they became bestfriends. Then he'd just daydream the impossible, convinced that Noct was as straight as they came. Imagine his surprise when he realises it was all a lie? Prompto didn't know how to handle it, so he decided to just do as Noct wanted and pretend it was still a secret. He didn't know a thing. It was easier that way, right?

And so he made Birb turn around and tried to get her to move. She squawked at him, ruffled her feathers and refused. Prompto pouted.]

What's gotten into her??

Looks like she's not going to let us go anywhere until we finish this conversation.

[ Noctis offers a weak smile and a forced laugh. He knows it's stupid, that Birb is probably just tired or hungry, but she picked a really awkward time to decide she didn't want to cooperate. ]

It's not like I wanted to keep secrets, Prom. It was just... easier. [ He sighs, turning his attention back to his own chocobo, giving him a few pats ] I never said anything to Specs or Gladio, either.

Why was it easier?

[Prompto asked quietly, fiddling with the reins within his hands again.]

Did you really think I'd stop being your friend if I knew?

[ Noctis shrugs, not really having a good answer for Prompto's question. He doesn't know why he never said anything. He just... didn't. ]

I knew you wouldn't stop being my friend. I knew it wouldn't affect my friendships with Gladio and Ignis, either... But the minute I slip up, let anybody have any reason to doubt my marriage to Luna, it would have immediately been in the press.

[ He sighs ]

Sometimes it's just easier keeping things to myself. Like when I gave Navyth the name Noct Gar.

[ Okay, it's not quite the same, but Noctis is going with it anyway. ]

[He almost laughed. He wanted to point out how many times he'd been a 'security breach'. He knew he'd been vetted by the others, Cor had clued him in and... there was a small bit of hurt there, but he did kinda get it. Noct was a royal after all. And Prompto was just... he was just Prompto. There were rules.

He picked at the reins, scratching at the leather with the nail of his thumb.]

No, I get it. I kept things from you too. You don't gotta tell me your deepest, darkest secrets. I just... just hope you know it doesn't change anythin.

[Prompto shot a quick glance Noct's way, nervous, and quickly looked back down at his hands.]

See cuz... I kinda like guys too. I mean I like girls too. But I like guys as well... So y'know, it doesn't bother me.

[ Noctis can't help but stare at Prompto at his own admission, not fully believing what he's hearing from his best friend. ]

I can't believe we've been keeping the same secret from each other for all these years.

[ It's ridiculous, when Noctis thinks about it, that they both had the same interests and never bothered to say anything. This is certainly a weight off of Noctis's shoulders, but he won't dare say anything about a silly crush on Prompto. That secret's staying with him because that's one that could actually ruin their friendship and that's something he's not going to risk.

He sighs, letting the tension out that he hadn't been aware he was holding. ]

You think Ignis and Gladio knew?

[Prompto sat himself up a little straighter, a hand rose to rub at the back of his neck and the smile he gave Noct was lopsided and a little ashamed.]

I guess so... I mean it took me a while to realise I like guys. I like girls too. But I like guys and... I dunno, dude. It just never came up? [A pause and a dark blush spread across his cheeks.] Uhh... I might, maybe kindasorta let somethin slip around Gladio once...

[ He can't help but laugh at what Prompto said, and he has to press for more information. He's not going to let Prompto say that and just get away with no further explanation ]

You did what around Gladio? [ He grins ] Come on, Prom, I'm your best friend... You can't just say that and not tell me what you let slip.

[ Noctis doesn't mention that he's interested in men and women, too, doesn't really think it's all that important. He's much more interested in this. ]
