[The only reply Sephiroth gets is the address to his house. He doesn't need to see him, but Wufei? Wufei needs him more, and that healing spell the guy could do.]

[Duo doesn't actually reply. He just shuts down the feed and then Reno will get a text with the location of the bar he was sitting in already.

As well as a promise to have a drink ready and waiting for when he shows up.]

[And a short time later he did show up, strutting through the door and sitting down right next to him. He took the drink without asking as if he was totally entitled to it.]

[It was his so of course he was entitled to it. Duo had his own drink. The third one he'd had so far and he was halfway through that.]

[Not like he hadn't expected that he'd be walking into something. He might've acted airheaded at times, but he could be a smart cookie. Possibly baked in alcohol.

[The last was muttered darkly and punctuated by a deep drink of his beer.

He liked Reno. He would really rather not fight him. But if it came down to it he would...]

[Reno had been humbled by some people living here, but from what he knew of Duo, he doubted he had to worry much about fighting the boy. It almost seemed like he didn't hear the 'threat'. But, with Reno's lack of self-preservation, it was possible he'd have ignored it either way.]

Ah, one of those, huh? You can take the man outta the fight but you can't take the fight outta the man.

...Or woman. [Elena had been a little trigger happy.] Yeah, our group was going through something like that. Some people were adjusting better than others.

[Funny enough, he and Rude probably adjusted the best, and they definitely weren't in normal territory.]

[Fighting? No. Outright killing? Maybe. Duo was a pretty chill guy until he was pushed. And right now he was at a low point and really not in any mood for niceties.]

He's got this... honour and justice boner that's... usually somethin I admire. [Since he didn't have much in the way of that himself.] But makes him think he can go toe-to-toe with assholes with swords that're clearly overcompensating for tiny dicks, but these bastards are super powered. So he comes home to me battered.

And one of these damn times he won't come home at all. He'll pick a fight with the wrong dickless wonder and... [Duo sighed and downed the rest of his beer.] ... And then I'll have to burn this whole fucking town to the ground. And that'd be a shame. I kinda like it.

[It was weird because Reno might've done a little running around fighting people who were way overpowered himself. He'd definitely discovered that there were people out of his league, frustrating as it was.

It wasn't out of honor, though. It was just because he was a dick who liked fighting.

He wondered if Rude ever worried about him like that? Maybe not... His ear twitched a bit.]

I'm not sure I know the solution to that one. I can text my partner if you want to know what tricks he uses to deal with it.

[Duo was already flagging down the bartender. His glass was empty and it needed not to be.

Reno's words, however, just pissed him off.]

So you're another? Careful, Red. Fuck yourself up badly enough and he might not come runnin anymore.

[Because at some point... you just had to admit defeat. That's one of the reasons why Duo was so miserable. He didn't know what to do to help Wufei. He didn't know how to stop him.

"I just want to feel like myself."

Those were the last words Wufei had said to him. Words that had damn well hurt. Because why the hell was he off picking fights to find himself instead of looking to the guy standing right next to him? The one who had been through everything he had, who had seen him at his worst and his best. The one who knew him. But no... It was easier to go and pick a fight with some alien or demon or super solider and risk getting killed.

It was selfish.]

If he hasn't left by now he's not gonna. Already been through the end of the world.

[It was one thing Reno definitely had. He was confident in his relationship with Rude. No screw-up would throw that out the window.

He took a gulp with a thoughtful hum.]

It's not about you, y'know? Sometimes people have to figure themselves out. I don't know how justice and honor people do it, though - don't really know that type. He doing police work or something?

[They'd been through hell and back, him and Wufei. Seen and done things no kid ever should. Maybe he thought things would be different?

Now his glass was fully again he took another drink.]

I know... I know it's not about me. Except for the fact he's with me. He wanted to be my partner, wanted to share a life together. Made me damn well fall for him. So whatever he's going through, it comes back to me.

[Only Wufei had been keeping him out of the loop. Had been taking risks that could have cost him his life. He shot Reno a look then.]

Your guy. Would he be happy if you came home fucked up? Or he found out you'd gone and got yourself killed for no damn reason? Does he deserve that? Or are you comfy just thinkin it's not about him, you're just figuring yourself out?

[It really was hitting close to home and almost making Reno uncomfortable. He preferred to be the carefree sort, but he had his worries, and Rude knew that. Most of all he tended to be the one who got the most attached, to the extent that when he got over-excited to see his old boss he had to be put back in his place.

Which meant, reckless or not, he really did care about Rude and worried about hurting him. And now they were being official partners. Reno had made sure there were caveats - if something happened, he didn't want to lose Rude no matter what, even if it meant going back to the way they were before. But he didn't plan on anything happening, and he wondered if Rude worried about it.]

Used to think he didn't really listen to my bitching. [When he finally spoke it was a bit thoughtful, thinking years back.] But I guess every time something happened to me, he went to beat the shit out of the asshole who did it.

[Reno felt a twinge of pride in that. Even when he'd thought Rude was brushing him off, they'd always been partners.

And now they were official. He'd been scared of 'official'. Really, of any change in their relationship. They'd been comfortable with each other for a long time and he'd feared that change could threaten that. It's why he'd tried to establish a lifeline to switch back to the way things were before if needed.

But now, listening to Duo, he realized something. Their relationship had changed. Rude didn't just want to be partners, he wanted to be partners. Which meant sharing. Responsibility. Could it even be possible Rude was worrying like this when he was out? It was hard to think, they were Turks, their lives were danger, but they were together now.

He gave a drawn out sigh.]

He likes a bit of danger. But he hates when I get hurt. Maybe I gotta run things by him more often now.
