My, such an interesting way to communicate with others.

[Someone has been watching the network for a while before actually going about and making a post.]

Now if those in the strange white hoaris are to be believed, all of us are refugees from other worlds.

So I'm curious... What kind of worlds do you come from?

I come from a world similar to this one, only I suppose it's a couple hundred years in the past, and yokai are only a myth.

My world was also similar to this one, except it was nearly one hundred years ahead. It was nearing the end of 2003 for me.

Instead of steam, most homes have electricity, along with running water, air conditioning, and heating systems. The clothing here is considered more traditional compared to what people wore in mine, and people weren't as shy about showing more skin in public.

We have trains in the Japan I'm from, too, but there's also airplanes that have made international travel much faster.

It's basically a flying machine that can carry passengers to and from places. That's how it makes international travel faster. Unlike a ship that relies on the wind and is at the mercy of the waves and the weather, an airplane flies above the clouds. I don't remember exactly how it helps, but that's how it can fly faster. Something about less resistance above the clouds.

I think I once heard that if you wanted to fly from Japan to the West Coast of America, you'd make it within less than 24 hours.

That isn't to say a plane is impervious against the weather. If the weather is severe enough, then flights get canceled.

Fuel. Not sure what kind, I just know it's fuel. I think the design of a plane plays a part too.

Definitely not magic. My world doesn't have magic, at least, not like the kind here. An airplane is a complex machine with lots of little parts, but I'm not knowledgeable about the specifics. It's just another "marvel of technology."

But even the ships in my time don't rely solely on the wind anymore. They can sail across the ocean on their own now, with the crew onboard that is.

[Ships still need a crew in her world.]

Yes. That, and propellers. They're these metal blades that spin around, like some of the fans you might have seen around here, or a pinwheel, except the ones on ships are much bigger.

It depends on the size of the ship. The bigger the ship, then the bigger the propeller that's needed.

In my time, some people go sailing just for leisure. We call those sort of trips "cruises." I've never been on one, but I heard they have all sorts of amenities to try and get the passengers to feel at home while at sea.

Yeah, the ships are relatively more comfortable compared to the ones you're familiar with. But disasters at sea still happen in my era.

Maybe another time, I'll tell you about one of the most infamous ship disasters in my world.

I've got a morbid curiosity too, so I could tell you more stories that I know of, and there's plenty that are about other things besides ship disasters.

Maybe I could recommend some books, too. There's a bookstore in Shinjuku that has a shelf with books that are somehow retrieved from the refugees' worlds. It's called Awanokuniya.

I come from a world with a completely different geographical makeup and a staggering difference in both magical and technological advancement.

[Unfortunately Edelgard is still struggling with learning to type. She finds it easier to just start a video.]

We don't have steam power or trains where I am from. Our church has purposefully suppressed our technological advancement and pushed faith magic in its place.

The faith stood as the main pillar of governance until I ousted them from their central church.

From what I gleaned of our previous conversation, perhaps we would.

This world is like it's several decades behind my time so the technology is less advanced. We also don't have magic that I know of where I'm from.

[He tilts his head thinking a moment.]

I was raised in a more Western Culture too. Even if my parents did practice some Korean traditions.
pinkblinded: (gaura11)

[personal profile] pinkblinded 2022-06-18 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Not really. But I'm used to not really having much so I haven't noticed much.

[So being without highly advanced technology? He's pretty used to that!]

America. I live in a city called Los Angeles but I was born in one called New York.
pinkblinded: (gaura5)

[personal profile] pinkblinded 2022-06-18 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Yes. We've had cities for a long time now.

[He's not sure about exact dates since history isn't his specialty but he's pretty sure of that.]

Were there no cities yet in your time?
pinkblinded: (gaura4)

[personal profile] pinkblinded 2022-06-20 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
That was many years ago now. America is its own independent country.
pinkblinded: (gaura11)

[personal profile] pinkblinded 2022-06-26 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't that how it is with a lot of places? People start to settle there after they discover it and create their own culture to unite them.
pinkblinded: (gaura2)

[personal profile] pinkblinded 2022-07-02 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Is that not it?

[personal profile] pinkblinded 2022-07-02 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh... I suppose not. [That is a good point. One he doesn't blind himself too but one he doesn't usually think about.]

Simplest answer I can think of is that we've blended cutting edge tech with magic. Feels like I've jumped a couple hundred years in the past.

You do have a point, but Serenes is different. The elders within it, they were the ones who raised me.
