Greetings Nippon, I am Maedhros Fëanorion and I arrived sometime last month. If it would not be too much of an inconvenience I would ask for some assistance.

[Maedhros looks a bit sheepish before he explains himself.]

After a small... accident one of my brothers shirts were, well... destroyed for the lack of a better word. I'm not quite sure where to go to find a replacement for him and would be grateful for any help in the matter.

I trust Elrond with my life, why wouldn't I trust him with my soul? Although... I'd hope you'd make sure he didn't fly too high while using it...

He is. I wonder where he got that trait from? [Most of his family, biological and adopted, were not known for their sensibility.] No, the one that would soar without regard to saftey would have been Elros.

Not from our side of the family. Perhaps it's something from the Lady Luthien?

[ Although he's not entirely sure if one can describe Luthien I-challenged-Satan-and-Death-and-won Tinuviel as 'sensible' ]

I'm not sure I'd call sneaking into Angband sensible... even if she succeeded in the end.

[He certainly didn't want Elrond to emulate that particular ancestor, noble though she might have been. He didn't want to be known as the first and only elf to die from a heartatack.]

...Seriously? You are talking about the man who got captured by Sauron because he wanted to prove to Thingol that he was worth his daughters hand in marriage.

He was sensible enough to know that he needed help, at least?

[ Okay, maybe Melian is the only sensible person in Elrond's bloodline ]

That's just the bare minimum of sensibility though...

[ Not that he doesn't think Uncle Fingolfin's charge wasn't TERRIBLY amazing and great for Songs, but also... No. ]

I think we should all just agree that 'good sense' was sorely lacking all over Beleriand at the time...

Which still leaves us to wonder where Elrond got it from.

Perhaps he is the originator of good sense? He didn't get it from anyone and it just manifested in him out of nowhere?

It makes more sense than him inheriting it! Unless it passed down from Indis, I suppose.... maybe Elenwe?

Perhaps... Indis always was sensible, I couldn't say one way or the other when it comes to Elenwe. I never knew her well enough.

Nor I... Findekano or Findarato might, perhaps! But they are not here to ask. She seemed very nice, but that means little about sense. And you knew Indis better than I did!

They might have. Not as well as I would have liked, father wouldn't have stood for that. But she always gave me good advise and I've never seen her act rashly.

I wish now I had been brave enough to try and get to know her. [ He sighs ]

Too late now, I suppose. I doubt she'd want to speak to anyone from our family again!

You would have liked her. She was musicaly inclined as well, you know? [He shakes his head sadly however.] It was bad enough that I was on somewhat friendly terms with her. If you had followed my lead in this I fear father would have acted... poorly to say the least.

I don't know... she'd be disapointed in us but... [The Indis he remembers had such a large capacity for forgivenes. He'd feel ashamed facing her again however.]

Was she? [ He perks up briefly before remembering ]

Ah. Yes. Father would... not have taken that well. [ Bad enough that Celegorm was so attached to Orome ]

You think she'd forgive us?

She used to sing. I liked listening to her doing so while I was visiting grandfather.

No. Sadly enough, I think the two of you would have enjoyed each others company. I wish he would have let us get to know her better... it would have been nice having a grandmother you could talk to. [He understood why his father was against it, but for him at least it had never been about replacing Miriel. Would it have been so bad to claim them both as his grandmother?]

She always forgave father, even though he was horrid to her. She'd not be pleased with us, likely she'd be very angry but I don't think she'd hate us. I don't know if it would be forgiveness exactly, but you can love someone and still not forgive everything they've done in their life.

Huh.

Maybe... if she might think on us... a little less than hate... perhaps one day I will be able to hear her.

[ He huffs softly, nodding ]

You'd like her songs, Kano. Though they are very different from yours.

[He gives a small, sad smile.]

Love is a strange and complicated thing. And I do believe she loved him you know, father I mean. She always tried so hard with him. She and Miriel were friends, it is said, her passing must have hurt her as well...

Difference in music is good. [ He hums ] It allows for innovation.

Maybe... one day I can play with her.

Mmm. Sounds about right. If all you hear is the same melody over and over you'll forget there's any other way to play, I suppose.

I think she'd like that.

It's no challenge unless there's something new.

[ He nods ]

If... if she will see me... then... one day, if I make it back, I will ask.

And you've always liked a challenge when it comes to music.

I think you should. She might not agree right away, but... I think it would actually mean a lot to her. I always wanted to tell her... she was a grandmother to me. Even if I couldn't say it out loud. And I could see she wanted to be that for us.
