Video: un: Suihua

[ Seeing someone in a hospital bed might be somewhat common a sight for Nippon. This time, the young man pictured is being checked over by a nurse - his pulse is being taken as the feed continues. He doesn't look the most happy, more impatient and maybe even a little worried as he sits mostly still for the check up.

Finally he pulls away and glances at the communicator he'd been given. Perhaps he'd been interrupted just before he was going to speak? His lips go thin in mild irritation before he seems to make an effort to draw himself up straighter, ignoring the nurse's cautioning words to not overdo it, they'd just gotten that hole closed thank you! ]

I am Jin Zixuan. I understand there might be people here I know. If this is true, please contact me.

[ His eyes might be begging one of these people is his wife. ]

Hanguang-jun.

[ Regardless of Lan Wangji's entanglement with Wei Wuxian, Zixuan has always respected and admired him. And really, he doesn't hate Wei Wuxian. Even with the whole 'probably responsible for his death' thing. ]

I am now. My wife is on her way here.

(So Yanli is going to him. Good. Now he has one question - a question he doesn't dare ask. But Wei Ying's safety is paramount.)

Wei Ying is present. (Will that be problematic?)

[ A complicated mix of emotions flash over his face before his gaze lowers and he forces himself to think before just blurting out whatever comes to mind. Just speaking without thought tends to get him in trouble.

But he knows how his precious A-Li feels about the menace. He knows that Wangji cares for Wei Ying, for whatever reason. The former matters the most to him, even above his own feelings.

So he lifts his gaze back to meet Wangji's. ]

That surely is a joy to A-Li.

[ But he still has to ask, even if it takes him a moment and his brow furrows. ]

Is he...Has he regained control?

(That menace is his life. Since Zixuan has fallen in love himself surely he will understand? Is there anything he wouldn't do for Yanli?

Wangji is still, quieting himself, hoping... They have to live on hope.)

And for him. (Yanli is a special light in his soulmate's life.)

He is with me. (But that might not be enough for an explanation.) I will not take my eyes off of him.

[ Oh he'll understand. Just as soon as he realizes that it's love Wangji feels for Wuxian and not just something else.

He searches Wangji's face for a moment before nodding shortly. ]

I won't start anything.

[ He doesn't think he'll elaborate on that over this strange device. ]

(Wangji would give anything to spare Wei Ying a moment of pain. What happened to Zixuan had been a horrible tragedy - unmeant and, sadly, a product of the magic Wei Ying had to rely on.)

We should talk. (He will cover this ground for his husband.) Where are you?

[ His cousin had been wrong to go after Wuxian as he had. Zixuan had done his best to stop it.

And failed. Horribly.

Truthfully, he really does want to understand why Wei Ying had started to rely on such dark energy. It doesn't make sense to him. ]

I just got to the house where A-Li and her brother live.

[ No more hospital, yay! ]

Are you strong enough for company? I won't take long. (What he has to say refers to his bond with Wei Ying. He will not reveal the other man's secrets. That isn't his place no matter what oath he makes to Wei Ying.)

[ Oh, he fully expects to speak with Wei Ying himself at some point. And he knows better than to try to get personal information out of Lan Wangji.

Zixuan hesitates, gauging his energy levels before nodding. ]

A short visit will be fine.

(Oh he will, Wangji doesn't doubt that. But it doesn't hurt for Wangji to be open and honest right off the bat.

After seeing the rabbits settled, he makes the journey to the Jiang house. He eventually finds his way to the room Zixuan is staying, calm and composed, though worry remains in his eyes.)

I brought my guqin. It will speed your recovery.

[ Honesty is a relief for Zixuan. His family and sect aren't...the most honest and even he knows it.

By the time Wangji finds him, he's had a chance to clean up a little after the tiring walk to the house, and to change into a fresh set of robes.

He doesn't stand though. He does, however, lift his arms to cup his hands before him in an aborted little bow of respect between peers. ]

You have my thanks.

(He raises a hand, shaking his head, afraid that the bow will cause Zixuan pain. The other man has had enough of that. Bringing out his guqin, he takes a seat near where Zixuan is resting, placing the instrument on his lap.)

First, I am glad to see you. (Alive.) Second, what happened was an accident. Wei Ying was never the same. He knew what you meant to his sister and little nephew. How could he forgive himself?

[ The hand is enough he drops his arms back to his sides, understanding the kindness for what it is.

He listens, gaze lowered just a little, then nods slightly. ]

I remember...his expression. He was shocked. I believe that isn't how someone who intended it would look.

[ And for all of the faults Zixuan feels Wuxian has...hurting Yanli like that isn't one of them. Not even to get back at him. ]

His heart is good. I admit he can be rash and undisciplined, but he is not cruel.

(Which is what left Wei Ying vulnerable to those who could be cruel without batting an eye.)

Zixuan is not his father. I believe relationships would have been repaired with time.

[ The filial part of him wants so badly to bristle and object. To say that his father isn't an evil man.

But he knows his father isn't perfect. And that part of that imperfection had infuriated Wei Ying to the point of acting. He can't forget, either, how Mianmian had even disowned the sect for being wrong - he still admires her ability to have acted like that.

And regretted her loss, at the same time. ]

I have never been close to him...but...he is dear to A-Li. And I do not believe he is evil.

[ This is difficult. Visibly so. But more important because of that very difficulty. ]

If you say he won't hurt anyone without just cause, I trust he will act honorably. I do not feel I have a reason to try to exact vengeance on him.

(The bristling would be understandable. He feels defensive about his father too even if the man behaved very questionably based on Lan standards. Wangji has obviously inherited that habit, though he will never lock Wei Ying away.)

He is my husband. (There are a lot of ways he could state that, but the meaning is the same. Wangji knows it will be a surprise based on their world's principles.) I knew he was my soulmate when we were young. It took time for us to reunite.

He did not have me by his side before. He does now.

[ Husband. That startles him enough to even forget to bristle.

Oh. He flushes just a little, ducking his head a little as he wrestles with that revelation. Cut-sleeves. It doesn't quite make sense with what he knows of Wei Ying, but he has no reason to doubt Lan Wangji.

Soulmates. That makes it a little easier to swallow. ]

Soulmates should not be parted.

[ Zixuan steadies himself before lifting his gaze back to Wangji's. ]

You do not need to worry about his safety with me. Even just for A-Li's sake, I want to speak with him soon and to...try to reconcile.

(The way Zixuan takes the news makes it easier for Wangji to see his kindness. Living as a Jin must be difficult - just as living as a Lan can be (though they are truly on opposite sides of the spectrum). Settling his hands on the strings of his guqin, he nods.)

They should not, but often are.

(He smiles faintly, bowing to show his gratitude to the other man.)

He is happier. I do not think it will be difficult.

[ Jin Zixuan isn't a cruel man. He's just...sheltered. Spoiled. But he's been working hard to learn and better himself. Marrying Yanli, becoming a father, fighting in the war, have all helped him grow and to prove himself to be better than his father. ]

Has anyone tried to keep you apart here?

[ He has Suihua. He'll use it to help his...what? His brother-in-law...? Is that how he should think of Wangji now?

A wry little smile tugs at his lips at the belief it won't be hard. ]

I'll try. I'm glad he's happier.

(Guangshan never cared to improve his image. Zixuan has noticed the problem and set about righting it. Wangji - and anyone else - can ask no more of him than that. Even Wei Ying had wanted nothing more than someone who could be loyal and loving to his sister.)

We were separated when he was returned home.

(Perhaps! They are family through marriage and that sort of thing is very important to Wangji.)

Jikan is a complicated place. I believe it is easier for those of us who are bonded with another.

[ Guangshan is, frankly, out of control and sees no problem with it. Zixuan isn't his father. It had bothered him how little his father wanted to fight in the war, which was why he'd led their sect himself.

Separated when Wei Ying had left.

Just as Zixuan had left Yanli. ]

...I assure you when that happens...It is not intentional.

[ That much he knows for fact. ]

The...Kizuna bonds I was told of?

(All of which works in Zixuan's favor. Wangji hopes that when he speaks with Wei Ying, the two will see their similarities and forget the differences. What a relief that would be for poor Yanli too!)

No, I did not think it was.

(He plays a gentle melody that allows them to talk.)

When we bond, we sometimes acquire animal characteristics.

(Wangji wiggles his long, fuzzy deer ears and bows his head to bring attention to his antlers.)

The stronger the bond, the more we can change.

[ Well some of those similarities include arrogance and short tempers...but they have worked together, fought together, and trusted each other to guard the other's back against enemies.

Anything is possible, really!

The gentle melody does help boost his weakened state and he draws in a calming breath, willing his core to accept the gift the Second Master Lan is offering. ]

...I see.

[ Yes thank you, he's been trying not to stare!

Those ears look so very soft! ]

Is it uncomfortable or painful?

(Wei Ying's arrogance has lessened with age. As has his short temper! Wangji is proud of the man he has become, though he has been head over heels in love with him since they were teenagers (much to his shock back then).

Stare all you like, Zixuan. He is accustomed to that reaction - and, yes, they are soft.)

Only to transform fully. I can become a stag.

[ Age and experience and hardship can have that effect. Zixuan knows it's changed him, though his growth has been...interrupted. Maybe now he can return to growing into a better person?

He can hope.

He nods, gaze lowering as his thoughts turn back to his wife - they rarely stray far from her! ]
