Good evening. I had a question I thought I'd like to present to you all. A curiosity really.

How many of you are familiar with those known as Immortals? It is alright if you only know of them through stories or myths. Largely I'm just wondering how much is known of them. What you know of them.

Whatever you wish to share, I will listen to. Thank you.

But it feels like you are asking something more specific and not just about "people who can't die".

I am. I suppose you might think of them as another race of people.

Where I come from they are responsible for ensuring the natural world runs smoothly for the Mortal Realm.

They are in my world anyway.

There are many gods here, it seems. Each from their own world, though. Unless you want to hear about other world's gods, you probably will have to ask someone who came from your place.

No one came from mine. But thank you. If you would like to tell me what you know I would still like to listen. The comparisons could be interesting.

Alright. God from my world is a tyrant who wants to be worshiped and will go as far as erasing a whole world if it doesn't do so.

My Master is immortal. I spent the majority of my life at her side. [So he knows more than the average cultivator about that sort of achievement.]

Is she? [This one seems to be mortal. If she's his master then perhaps she's a rare mortal who...]

Would you mind if ask about her?

No, I don't mind. [He's happy to talk about her.] She achieved immortality through her cultivation.

[dragonrising]

[He smiles gently at that.]

That was to be my first question. So she was once mortal.

[gentledawn]

She was. Now she is at least several hundred years old. [And still taking unwanted children onto her mountain.]

[dragonrising]

That makes her very young for an Immortal. But it's impressive all the same.

Do you know if she can do anything new that perhaps she couldn't when mortal?

[He peers at the screen, still unused to this technology and stubbornly refusing how to learn the proper uses for it. Whatever the initiate uses for communication is the mode Cheng follows.]

Are you interested in becoming one yourself? As far as my knowledge goes, only Cultivators with a strong core may become Immortal.

[Runyu smiles at the question. Quite the thing to ask really but he decides to not reveal himself just yet.]

Only Cultivators with a strong core can? Why is that?

[Squints a little more at the smile.]

Because the common people do not have the discipline nor control to balance themselves and achieve harmony and balance.

[We're...just going to ignore his own faults, for the time being.]

So that is what is needed to achieve it? Harmony and balance?

Compulsion and determination.

[He tilts his head slightly. ]

Are you curious or something else? These are questions a schoolmaster poses to his charges for learning. Young...children.

[He chuckles softly at that.]

I was actually aware of how Immortality could be achieved as well as what cultivation is. My curiosity was answered when you told me that it seems only mortal cultivators can become Immortals in your world.

[ Zishu smiles when he sees Runyu - today has him seated in the Four Seasons Manor (newly customized to his specifications) with the garden around him. ]

It is good to see you, Runyu.

I met an Immortal on my world. [ And, showing he's paid some attention to other conversations his friend has been having, as well as reading between the lines... ]

He mastered a martial arts technique that turned him from a mortal man, to an immortal one. Through this mastery, he gained insight into other martial arts and so his was strengthened to the point there is much he can do that others cannot.

[dragonrising]

[After a recent conversation he's grateful to see a friendly face. He smiles warmly at the man as he listens, nodding to show he understands.]

So he was mortal and through devotion to his craft he became an Immortal. Not many mortals can accomplish that task.

[ Friendly faces are important. His smile warms in answer, and he nods. ]

It is easier to lengthen one's life than to make it endless. I heard though that his method required he give up food and water in exchange for only eating snow to remain immortal.

Mortals usually have to go to greater extremes to achieve such things. So that doesn't surprise me. His energies perhaps recognize snow as purity.

Aah. Perhaps.

He left his refuge, but did not maintain that diet. [ Ye Baiyi could eat ] Last I saw him, his body was decaying. Perhaps he'd grown tired of the immortal life.

It can weigh heavily on one. Especially a mortal become an Immortal. To watch everything you know and love fade around you as you remain the same is not an easy burden to carry.
