Heya everyone! Hope I'm not interrupting anything?

[Aerith appears with a bright smile and a strange question for everyone.

She'd been thinking about this for a little while now and had decided on a whim just to throw it out into the world and hope for the best!]

I was hoping to find someone who was handy with a sword to help me!

... Aaand maybe help me find one of my own. I used to have one. [A shake of her head and a laugh, remembering when that was...] You see, before here I was 'somewhere else'. I had a friend there, Nico, who was teaching me swordplay.

I've been thinking of picking that back up!

So I was just wondering, if anyone had any spare time, and a spare weapon, they'd be willing to pick up where Nico left off?

As I said, I'd been learning before and would like to carry it on! If I could find someone to continue showing me how to make simple jewellery I would have asked that too.

Resources were limited back there. But here they're more readily available. There's a lot I would enjoy taking back up now I have the time. And now I remember.

Ah well... [ He frowns a little ] I suppose I could teach what I know... but jewellery making? I can teach that too, a little, although it's hardly my area of expertise...

[Oops... Well this is the case of a woman with time on her hands willing to try something a bit different! And really wants to reassure Maglor. His worried face is making her feel guilty. And like Maglor is in need of a big hug to prove she's okay and nothing is wrong!]

That's fine! That's something I can probably continue on my own and... maybe learn along the way. But sword arts isn't something I think I can just accidentally master on my own!

[ He smiles a little wryly ]

That is true. But I see that my brother has already spoken - you will find no finer swordsman in all of Arda, saving perhaps my uncle Nolofinwe, who is, of course, not here!

[ And maybe a Reborn Glorfindel, but Maglor has never seen the Balrog Slayer fight ]

And he is an experienced teacher, too. If any can teach you the blade, it will be him.

But I am happy to show you what I know of gem-making, Aerith, although I don't know if we will be able to get the exact things we need here!

I have some experience in training others in swordplay and I have an overabundance of free time at the moment. Is there any particular reason why you wish to learn, lady?

Oh you do? That's great! [Aerith's smile is a bright one.] No reason other than I had only started my training before and I'd like to continue!

Though I know I'll probably have to start all over again with someone new...

I do, mostly I trained people to become soldiers but I've trained children in how to protect themselves as well. [Well, two children to be precise.] As good a reason as any I suppose.

Unless it was a very long time ago I doubt you will have to spend to much time on the basics but it will probably be good for any new instructor to at least see that you have them down correctly.

That's great! I... [Hold up...] Hey, I'm not a child!

[And now she's pouting. Totally a grown up.]

Well technically it's hard to say. In my mind it was only a few months ago. But who knows how long it actually was? My memories have only recently returned to me.

And you don't think he'd mind?

[his lips twitch, but he just barely holds back a laugh]

I don't think so? I can ask him for you if you want.

[She's being made fun of. But two can play at this game!]

I dunno... Cloud is kind of busy, isn't he?

[Now it was Aerith who was trying to hold back her laughter.]

Not unless he asks nicely!

Besides, that isn't sword fighting. That's just fighting! I want to learn how to use a sword, Wufei. Not hand-to-hand combat!

[He actually laughs. Really, properly laughs!] Well, if you can't find a more suitable tutor, I can teach you when I have free time. But I should warn you, I'm a harsh master. [He has no idea how that sounds to some people.]

[The laugh surprises a smile from her and she can't help a little laugh of her own.]

Thanks, Wufei. But I think I've found what I'm looking for. I'm looking for a kind teacher, though! You'd hate teaching me. I'm a bit of a brat.

[ Sephiroth appears impassive but if one knows him well, one can see the slight hint of confusion in the twitch of his eyebrows and hear the undertone of disapproval in his voice. ]

Why didn't you come to me?

[ She shouldn't need anyone but him for most things, and especially this. ]

My dear, sweet Sephiroth. I didn't for the same reason I didn't back in Havenwell. Because I wanted to learn something new and potentially surprise you with it!

And just because I have asked others, and will accept some of their help, doesn't mean for a second that I would deny your help.

[Her smile is gently loving as she says all of this. The truth is she could have asked Sephiroth to teach her, knew he would have been gentle with her, but at the same time she'd really wanted to try and do something 'herself' so that she could eventually show him and impress him with her new abilities! Or utterly embarrass herself at how bad she was. That was also an option.]

[ He is silent for a long while, the gears almost audibly grinding in his mind. ]

Was I not supposed to see this?

[ In other words, did he ruin the surprise? ]

[She can't help it when she laughs, Sephiroth is just so cute she wants to go and get him and just hug the stuffing out of him!]

I wasn't particularly hiding it! Not this time at least. But I would be lying if I said I didn't think you'd even see this...

I can't take up everyone's time, so if you really want to play with swords with me, then maybe we could practice what I learn together?

Never pictured you stabbing things so openly before, though. [Maybe discreetly.] I kind of want to see that.

I've wanted to learn how to better defend myself for a while. You all have the advantage of being trained and I... [Lets face it, she was winging it for the most part. A natural talent sure, but she'd never really been taught how to do the things she could do. Not really.]

I think it's a good idea to learn how to use an actual weapon! There are so many dangerous creatures around, who knows when I'll need to protect myself?

Not a bad idea for you. For the rest of us, though, I'm a little worried.

[She caused enough trouble already. And now she'd be armed.]

But, I guess that's true. There's some weird stuff around. Usually seems fairly safe in certain areas, though. Almost... weirdly so. Like it's too quiet.

[And not in the ominous, "it's too quiet which means something is going to happen" way. It was just too quiet. The Turks didn't know what to do.]

[It was said teasingly but honestly Aerith had no intentions of using any of her newfound abilities on her friends. She strictly wanted to better defend herself... and maybe she wanted to have a little fun with her friends also?]

It can be... slow, I agree. But the days when it isn't slow are when I find I will need a way to fight better.
